My Further Glee With The PS4 Screenshot Function: Witcher 3 Edition

White Orchard

As some of you may know, I’ve written previously about my affection for the PS4 screen capture functionality. The more I use it, the more I love it.

It’s such an odd, yet natural, thing: taking screen shots in game worlds. It’s something I never knew I wanted until I was able to do it in Animal Crossing: New Leaf. Having the ability to take these glorious images within game worlds is just a treat. I can only assume my collection of images will grow over the years.

That being said, I was backing up some data yesterday, and I came across some of the newer screenshots I’d taken, and I was tickled all over again.

Especially with a few I’ve taken within The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.

So friends, allow me to ring out the week with a collection of some of my favorite images from the Witcher 3.

.

The image above is from one of the weirder missions I encountered. Geralt, the main character, is a Witcher, and as such, fights evils of many types, and does various favors for people. This particular favor has to do with locating a missing pan.

Yup. You read that right.

A pan.

For a lady at the seashore.

And he super finds it for her. Or I did, rather, as Geralt.

Enjoy your pan, lady.

OMG this made me laugh so hard when it happened.

The word “fart” just slays me. I see it in print and I erupt into the silliest of giggles. So when I was just minding my own business and wandering through this area, I saw that text above the soldier’s head and I lost it.

The funniest part is that he had actually just farted, and the subtitles were on, so it also said he farted.

There is so much good happening here, I can’t even explain it.

Farts.

The situation was then made even funnier when, as I was walking past the same soldier, he started singing some random song, as shown above his head.

Pam pa ram. Pam pam pa ram…

I am not a sunset photo person (long story that harkens back to my photographer days), but the sunsets in the game are gorgeous. The Witcher 3 has a dynamic weather system, as well as a day and night system, and when you squish those things together, you come up with some truly beautiful combinations.

So, in this case, Geralt stopped to spend some time with the Queen Anne’s Lace and to enjoy the view.

Within the game there is a super sneaky cat potion you can use to see better in the dark. I had been exploring a cave, and when I emerged, the potion was still in effect and caused the area to look like a high key black and white photo. I thought it looked quite lovely.

I am a sucker for water in games, and the water effects in the Witcher are gorgeous. There are many areas with shallow waters (as seen here), and I would just delicately splash around and take the experience in.

How much fun Geralt is having?!

So much fun.

Quite similar to the last image, here was another location with shallow waters and lovely trees. Not that you can tell from the photo, but the sound design in the game is excellent, and many times I would just stand still and listen to the wind rustling through the trees.

The game is so beautifully done.

And speaking of more water, here is Geralt, out for a midnight swim. Just look at the ripple effects around him, as well as the rest of the water. Water physics have come so far in the last chunk of years, and they are one of the things I look at most closely when playing a current gen game. The other thing I notice right away are fabric physics.

And this one just amuses me to no end.

Peek a boo Geralt.

Sounds like an action figure.

What? Sometimes Geralt just likes to spend time being weird in a bunch of sunflowers. Is that a problem?

Dude’s gotta unwind somehow.

.

And with that, I wish each of you a glorious weekend. Be safe out there! Cheers!

  1. This game is soo beautiful. It’s not only the graphics that make the game, but it’s the surroundings, the different locations and the sounds!

  2. You certainly are having a good time with that feature. I’d like to say I’ll do the same when I actually get around to spending serious time with my PS4, but probably I won’t. It’s this weird thing where it just doesn’t occur to my brain to take pictures of stuff, gaming or otherwise. Something I’ll have to work on I guess.

    • Oh my gosh, it’s so much fun! I don’t take a lot of photos in reality, so it’s a little odd that I use it so much on the PS4. I actually find myself missing the feature on my PS3, etc. I love screenshots!

Well even if you don’t remember to take a screenshot, the PS4 will do it for you every time you get a trophy…those are usually pretty disappointing screenshots though. Sometimes disappointingly funny.
