August Game Challenge: Week One (July, Take Two)

inside cornfield

As some of you know, my July game challenge was derailed into oblivion. Because of an emergent family situation, I made the decision to extend my July challenge through August, so August is survival horror month, take two. The full list of games I’m hoping to get to is as follows:

Alan Wake
Among the Sleep
Buffy the Vampire Slayer
Buffy the Vampire Slayer: Chaos Bleeds
Condemned: Criminal Origins
Condemned 2: Bloodshot
The Evil Within
Fatal Frame
Fatal Frame II: Crimson Butterfly
Fatal Frame III: The Tormented
Inside
Knock-Knock
Layers of Fear
Manhunt
Murdered Soul Suspect
Obscure: The Aftermath
Outlast
Resident Evil: Revelations
Shadows of the Damned
Silent Hill
Silent Hill 2
Silent Hill 3
Silent Hill 4: The Room
Silent Hill: Downpour
Silent Hill: Homecoming
Silent Hill: Origins
Silent Hill: Shattered Memories
Siren
Siren: Blood Curse
Soma
State of Decay
The Vanishing of Ethan Carter
The Walking Dead: Season 2

I know that’s a crazy ambitious list of games, and I know I would be remiss to think I’d ever get to all of them, but it certainly gives me a wide selection to choose from. I’m hoping I can regain my focus of all things and really knuckle down to make a dent in that list.

However.

The Olympics begin on the 5th.

I adore the Olympics. When they are taking place, everything else ceases to exist. I stay up into the wee hours of the morning to watch any and every sport I can catch on the one channel I can get (NBC). We don’t have any sort of cable, so I have to rely on the digital antenna to pick up even NBC well enough. It’s not great, but it’s better than nothing.

I’m most looking forward to gymnastics and swimming. I’m super rooting for Simone Biles. She is unfrigginbelievable.

But back to the gaming front, on top of the heaving list of horror titles, there are several new releases this month that I’m super excited for. Abzu, No Man’s Sky, and Deus Ex: Mankind Divided are all high on my radar (and pre-ordered no less).

So, basically, I have a zillion games to get to, three weeks of Olympics to watch nearly non-stop, and three new releases to get to.

Friends: brace yourself for some disappointment on this game challenge. There are only so many hours in the month, and they are over-spoken for.

But I’m a little curious how this is all going to shake out.

The games I hope to get to this week are Inside (I’ve been avoiding reading too much about it because I don’t want it spoiled for me, but I have to admit, I’m fascinated), Abzu, and at least one other horror title. If I can keep making some progress during the month, I will consider it a success.

And I will never regret watching the Olympics at every waking hour. So that’s a win.

What are your August gaming plans? Which games are you hoping to tackle first? Do you have any on pre-order?

  1. Good luck with you’re challenge. I would get No Man’s Sky but I have to renew my PlayStation Plus membership.

  2. Just got Deus Ex on pre-order. Waiting to hear more on Telltale’ Batman series before I purchase it.

  3. Hey Rebekah! I apologize for not visiting your site sooner and commenting. I’m sorry to hear that you’ve been going through a rough time lately. I hope things are turning around for the better!

That’s quite a list of horror games! I haven’t played most of those games either but a lot of those titles I’ve always meant to get to at some point. I finished Inside not too long ago and that might be the perfect game for your challenge especially since you’re watching the Olympics. I finished it in about 4 hours and found it really interesting. If you’ve played Limbo a lot of the puzzles will feel familiar but they still have enough differentiation to make them unique.

For August I don’t really have a new release upcoming. If anything Deus Ex would be my choice, but since I haven’t played the previous game I can wait. I’ve still got plenty of other games to catch up on though.

    • Brian! Oh gosh, no worries; it’s nice for you to be here no matter when you arrived. :)

Thank you for the kind words. Things are still very complicated, but I am trying to just take things as they come.

Oh man, just you talking about having finished Inside makes me excited all over again to play it.

Oh man, I have so many games to catch up on, too. I hope I can at least play a handful this month, but with the Olympics…I’m not sure that’s going to happen.
