I can almost smell December. If I was closer to a window, perhaps I would be able to smell it even better. Who can say?
I probably could. I just don’t feel like getting up to go to the window. Let’s just assume I can smell December sneaking up on us.
Anyway!
Here we are, Thanksgiving week upon us, and it’s hard to believe that November is almost over. Not only will this week see Thanksgiving, but the both fortuitous, and ridiculous, Black Friday. Then, my stupid birthday. Then, Cyber Monday. That’s a lot of food (in theory) and consumerism (also, in theory). I have no plans for Thanksgiving other than potentially making both nachos and stuffing (stuffing is my favorite food). I have no plans for Black Friday or Cyber Monday, and no plans for my birthday other than lots of Borderlands.
Borderlands.
This past weekend, we were at the dog park early in the day. It was windy and warm and I said out loud to my partner, “This weather makes me want to play Borderlands.” He was like, “So let’s play Borderlands.”
This is a big deal to me for a couple of reasons. One: my partner typically doesn’t go in for replaying a game (he is a “fresh experience” kind of gamer). Especially a game like Borderlands that we have played together for many, many hours of our lives (even though it was years ago). When I brought up wanting to replay it for my birthday this year, he was entirely willing, which I thought was very kind. And two: he suggested it a whole week early.
Wheee!
So later that day, we started back in on Borderlands (booted it up on the PS3), with completely fresh characters. I was worried he would get bored, but we have been playing it over the weekend, and are both sufficiently into it.
Though, to say I’m into it would be a gross underestimation. I adore the first Borderlands. Going back to it like this has only reinforced that it’s my favorite in the series. I hope with Borderlands 3, Gearbox goes back to their roots a bit. The “less is more” approach works well for the series.
So, now that we’ve started playing, all I want to do is play more Borderlands. Do I still want to play Rise of the Tomb Raider? Yes, I do. Do I still want to play Fallout 4? Yes, I do.
Do I want to play Borderlands more than either of those?
Yes, I do.
I’m not sure what it is about Borderlands specifically, but every time I really start to play it, all I want to do is play more of it. In massively large quantities. I want to go on loot runs! I want more XP! I want to fast travel all over Pandora!
Last week I made good progress in Rise of the Tomb Raider, but I’ve still not crossed the finish line. I have a feeling over the long weekend that I will finally complete Lara’s journey, as well as shove myself into the wasteland of Fallout 4. And, of course, more Borderlands. Always more Borderlands.
My more-relaxed-than-usual game challenge has gone very well so far. I am pleased!

Going to try & pull myself away from Destiny to start playing season 1 of GOT. Don’t know how successful I’ll be. Can you do a blog on games that you want to stop playing; for some reason tehy keep your attention? That’s the issue I am having with Destiny.

Believe it or not, I’ve actually touched on that in several pieces! I had an extremely difficult time pulling away from playing so much Destiny. In all truth, I miss it. I definitely understand. I ended up having to literally force myself to not play for a few days in a row and that started the “breaking away” process. But I felt super gross about it. I would see people in my friends list playing and there was that “They are playing WITHOUT ME!” feeling. I didn’t love it. But I’m glad I’ve been able to put time into other games.

I’ll be playing PS4 as time permits while we prepare for Thanksgiving. Going to start by playing GOT season 1. I’ll try to sprinkle in Destiny; Especially since Xur is coming this weekend. Interested in seeing what he has to offer.

Happy Birthday, firstly! Enjoy your weekend, especially if it’s full of Borderlands-y goodness ;)
As for me, I too am looking for finish up some stuff: namely Batman: Arkham Knight. One more good session should polish that off. Maybe Dragon Quest Heroes too, though I love just messing around and fighting stuff/grinding out XP for my characters so I am in no rush to kill that off. I, regrettably, think I have to head off on Black Friday to pick up $25 Splatoon somewhere (can’t remember if it’s Wal-Mart (ugh), Gamestop, or Bestbuy) – Nintendo games getting a mark-down are pretty much the rarest event in the gaming industry. Also, with my sister coming home for awhile, I’ll probably play some Kickle Cubicle with her and try to beat that for our RetroN1 (NES Clone).
Yes, I have an NES game on my “to do” list. In 2015 :) Nothing like the occasional quickie retro game to blast through to “unclog” your backlog a bit (when you’re seemingly slogging through so many other massive titles). And I have to admit, ever since I found out about JJGames.com, I’m pretty sure I’ll be picking up some retro gems here or there more often. I’m loving how short some old games were! Especially when so many current games are MASSIVE, time-consuming affairs.

You aren’t kidding! Nintendo games coming down in price is an occasion for celebration. They hold their value like crazy.
Retro games are so awesome. I often do a palate cleanse with some Bubble Bobble or Dr. Mario. It’s refreshing!
