Why Do Today…

fantasia music evolved 03

It’s that time of year where I start to “panic” about not having finished enough games released in 2014 to form a cohesive and informed opinion on the “games of the year” topic. And this bothers me.

So I sat down the other day and jotted down the games I really feel I should play before December 31st.

The list is long.

This brings me to one of my favorite gaming websites, HowLongToBeat. This site is a treasure trove of information on the completion times for just about every game you can think of (though I did stump it with my inquiry of Fantasia: Music Evolved). When I did my gaming challenge back in May, this site was instrumental to my success. It lists the base time to finish each game, as well as a completion run, and everything in between.

However, after cross checking my list with the site today, I feel like success is a bit further off than I’d like. The word farfetched would not be argued against.

I thought I would share my list of the games I’d like to complete before the end of the year (a paltry 19 days away). So even if I could stop playing Destiny (and I’m closer to that point after the disappointing expansion released), I’d have to cram to finish all these in time.

I have them separated out by system, so friends, please share in my hilarious procrastination. The titles are listed below with the approximate time to beat them in parentheses.

I can practically hear the clock ticking…

wolf among us 01

PS4

Doki Doki Universe (6 hours)
I actually played the first hour of this game and was hooked by its melancholy and adorable premise. I can’t wait to get back.

Evil Within (15 hours)
I only recently acquired this on Black Friday, but I’m looking forward to getting into it.

Far Cry 4 (14 hours)
This was my most anticipated game of the year, which Ubisoft’s customer service has been doing their best to ruin. I hate to say it, but it’s working. Their lack of customer caring has turned me off of them in general. Hopefully that feeling can be turned around.

Hohokum (4.5 hours)
I had kept such close track of this experimental game, and I look forward to exploring it.

Little Big Planet 3 (5 hours)
I love Sackboy, and his new gang of friends are equally adorable. I look forward to getting to know them. And dress them up in sombreros. Or spacesuits. Or both. At the same time.

Murdered Soul Suspect (6.5 hours)
This was another game I had been so excited for, then it slipped onto the back burner. I hope to rectify that.

P.T. (1 hour)
I know this is technically a demo, but I feel I have to play it before the end of the year. It looks messed up in the best way.

Valiant Hearts (6 hours)
This game looked incredibly moving even from still shots. It will be heavy.

Walking Dead Season Two (9 hours)
I loved season one, so this is a no-brainer.

Watch_Dogs (18 hours)
I put about five hours into this when it released and then my interest waned. I’d still like to finish it.

The Wolf Among Us Season One (8.5 hours)
I played episode one and loved the art direction as well as the music. I definitely want to get back into this.

Wolfenstein (12 hours)
I have only heard good things about this.

Xbox One

Fantasia: Music Evolved (?)
This is perhaps the game at the very top of my list to play. I love the premise. I love the song list. I love the fact that it isn’t like any other game out there. And it gives me a reason to finally connect my Kinect.

Sunset Overdrive (9.5 hours)
I love how gonzo and colorful this game is. I can’t wait to spend time in that world.

danganronpa trigger happy havoc 01

PS Vita

Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc (23.5 hours)
Ever since this was compared to Battle Royale, I was in.

kirby triple deluxe 01

3DS

Kirby: Triple Deluxe (6.5 hours)
Believe it or not, I’ve never played a Kirby game before. And he is pretty freaking adorable. I need to get on this.

Yoshi’s New Island (6 hours)
I started this game and found it to be not quite as great as I had hoped. I’d like to put a bit more time in to see how it fares.

Now that I’ve put all these in print like this, it lets me know how seriously behind I am. So if you will excuse me, I have a metric butt ton of games I need to play in the next 19 days.

Good luck to me on that.

Happy Friday, my fellow weekend warriors!

  1. Best of luck, Rebekah! I’ve conceded the fact I’ll have time to play everything I want to play…

My Vita has 6+ games I have yet to give even a minute that I want to play. Walking Dead Season Two, Muramasa Rebirth, Guacamelee, Valkyria Chroncicles 2, Vagrant Story and I want to go through MGS2 and MGS3 again. LE SIGH.
