What Does It Meeeeeeeeean?

Yesterday morning, Bethesda tweeted the familiar Fallout “Please Stand By” test pattern with the hashtag #PleaseStandBy. It’s clearly a Fallout tease, but for what?

Shortly thereafter, Bethesda began streaming via Twitch with the following image:

Periodically, things would briefly happen (please see Polygon’s collection of all the livestream antics), otherwise, it’s been Vault Boy and his static thumbs-up.

I have my own speculations (e.g.: Fallout 3 remaster, sequel to New Vegas), but as I was pondering what exactly this means, I couldn’t help but think this is a huge troll move. We likely won’t have confirmation of what this means until Bethesda’s showcase at E3, and I could absolutely see this being a Fallout 4 port to Switch. If the latter is the case, making this big of a deal of a port of an existing game seems…melodramatic. Then again, that’s just my take.

So I am curious: what do you think this means? And why? How will you feel if all this was for a Switch port?

Part of me was like…wouldn’t it be funny if this was a weird way to announce not only a Fallout 4 port to Switch but also that Vault Boy would be in the next Smash Bros.?

Who even knows. Nintendo sells cardboard now so anything could happen.

I’d love to hear what you think about all this weirdness.

  1. I’m praying to Cthulhu for a New Vegas remaster. 3 would be nice too, but New Vegas, baby. That’s what I NEED. I’ve been listening to the soundtrack all day in hopes that I can influence fate by screaming out my window to “Big Iron”.

  2. I unfortunately caught some of the news before coming here and I would have guessed a possible remaster as well. Apparently Bethesda has teased a new Fallout game called Fallout 76. Nothing really is known about it as of now aside from the name and from what I’ve been reading in the comment speculation it’s either set in West Virginia or New Orleans. My guess would be New Orleans for just the chance of a wider variety of settings. I’m guessing we’ll not hear much more until their E3 presentation.

I’m a little conflicted about this. While I like the Fallout series it hasn’t been that long since 4 released and I was really hoping for Elder Scrolls VI. It could always be a possibility but I doubt Bethesda has the resources for both of these projects simultaneously.

    • Indeed! I’m curious to see it fleshed out at E3.

I kind of hope Bethesda leaked this to throw people off of a potential Elder Scrolls VI announcement. I know that’s a long shot, but it’s my hope, none the less. :)
