Status Report: Week 51 (NO WAY)

Some weeks are more eventful than others; the past week was one of them.

First of all, so many of you lovely people let me know you were out there reading and I can’t even begin to tell you what that means to me. The whole reason I started writing was to connect with people about games and gaming and how it brings us all together. It’s become so much more than that over the years and, next year, I’m hoping to make a push to the next level.

More on my plans for next year, later. I will also be looking for suggestions and feedback at that time, so if you have anything you’d like to see from me, please feel free to let me know now or when I post about it in the near future.

There’s a group I belong to on Facebook that is centered around a particular gaming publication and the video content they create. I’ve made some amazing friends through that group, some of whom I’ve been lucky enough to meet in reality.

There are many side groups from that main one, and one of them decided to do a Secret Santa this year. There were about 80 of us and it turned out to be an amazing experience for me. I not only got to buy for someone I’d not been friends with previously (we are now!), but I received gifts from my Secret Santa on Friday and it turned out the person who got me is someone I have mad respect for. They got me one of the weirdest things on my Amazon wishlist (I had never made one before so I picked several silly things, all of which I knew I’d enjoy): a clutch handbag in the shape of red lacquered lips. They also bought me the Funko of D.Va from Overwatch. Both of which I loved.

But the best part was that they drew me something personalized and amazing and it’s priceless. I’m going to frame it. I had no idea they were such an amazing artist, and I couldn’t love what they created more than I do.

I feel so terribly fortunate, I can’t even tell you.

A couple hours later, my partner comes home and tells me he picked something up for me at the store. I hadn’t asked him to buy anything, so I had no idea what he was referring to. He handed me a bag and, for some reason, I thought he bought me cookies.

It was way better than cookies.

I looked in the bag and thought to myself, WHOA THAT LOOKS LIKE A SWITCH.

Then I realized: WHOA THAT IS A SWITCH!!

He bought me a Switch and Super Mario Odyssey on his way home from work!!! I couldn’t believe it. I was in total shock. I hadn’t expected to get one for quite some time, and I just kept shaking my head in disbelief. He is always so generous with me, but this one really surprised me.

I mean, how lucky can one day be?!

As soon as the Switch appeared, I went to the store and got a pro controller. I also ordered several accessories on Amazon (like an SD card and a stand), and I’m hoping to take the Switch with me when we go on holiday later this week. I mean, from the moment I saw her, I was aching to meet Dorrie (the lovely purple sea creature above) and boop her snoot.

I’ve also been deep into setting up my new computer which, as usual, is taking longer than I’d like. I need to finish it in the next couple of days, and it’s been moderately frustrating, but it has to be done. In the meantime, I’ve not played any games other than Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp, and some random events in Destiny 2. I’d like to start Dead Rising 4 this week, as I’m hoping it will put me in the irreverent Christmas mood.

With that I ask, what are you hoping to play this week?

Please be safe out there, friends. And thank you for being here. Truly. Cheers.

  1. Congrats on everything! I hope you have fun playing your brand new Switch! I may join the club next year with Bayonetta 2 and 3 and hopefully Pokémon!

This weekend I played Bound and, finally, Virginia! I thought Bound was only okay, but I thought Virginia was really interesting! The soundtrack is awesome and the editing was super interesting, totally a thing I hope to see more in the industry. The story I couldn’t understand a lot! But it made more sense than the reviews I read made me believe.

This week I have no idea what to play! I’m playing Pokémon UltraSun right now and I have a few other ones to play, too. Dead Space 3, South Park, Telltale’s Back to the Future, A Hat In Time. I beat 63 games in 2015 and 2016, now I’m at 60 in 2017 and I want to get to 63 again!

Have fun with ALL those awesome games! Dead Rising 4 is fun! It’s simple compared to 2 and even 3, but still lots of funs!

    • Oh man, I’m so glad you played Virginia. So many moments in that game haunt me, in good ways. I loved it so much.

And thank you! I still can’t believe he surprised me with a Switch!

Holy sh*t, you’ve beat so many games this year!! That’s awesome!!

  2. Wow! That’s quite the surprise! Have fun with your new Switch.

I plan to continue on with Bravely Default and Dead Rising 3. I got The Evil Within 2 for my birthday today, I played a bit of it tonight.

    Happy Gaming!

  3. Congrats on the Switch! Enjoy the Nintendo adventures that await you! I’m secretly hoping for an Xbox One X just to have the latest and greatest technology (but it’s not happening). Regardless, gaming themed presents are among my favorite. This week so far has simply been some Overwatch and I keep trying to play Destiny 2’s DLC then there’s a new story about a near-game breaking bug or glitch that needs a patch and I find myself playing other games. Plus, I can’t decide whether to start Horizon Zero Dawn or Persona 5,

    • Thank you!! I can’t wait to play Odyssey, but because of how busy everything is, I have to wait and it’s driving me BONKERS.

Gaming themed presents are so awesome, I definitely feel you there.

I have NOT heard about that glitch! Now I’m going to have to look it up. Just what Destiny needs is another problem. I really don’t know what to think of the state of Destiny 2 right now.

      OOOOOOOOOH!! Both sound so good!!

  4. Nice! Congrats on all the great presents! I just finished Super Mario Odyssey over the weekend. I’m sure you’ll love it. I’m still playing The Fractured But Whole and I’ll hopefully complete it before the year’s over.

  5. Oh wow, it was your lucky day indeed! A lovely idea, the secret Santa, and the getting something that’s so special!
And then the Switch! Even I’m exited at you getting one, I’m so curious to hear what you think about playing on it. Don’t tell my 3DS and Vita, but it turned into my favorite handheld device at the moment!

    • You’re not kidding!! I still can’t believe it, and I’ve had almost a week to digest the whole thing! (Also, I sent you a Switch friend request.)

I think, so far, it’s a really slick little device and I’m looking forward to playing some Super Mario Odyssey tomorrow! :)
