As most of you know, I’ve been sick for what feels like forever. The other day I tried to play one of my most frequented genres (first person shooters), and it didn’t go well. It was exceptionally difficult for me to focus on what was happening and, in less than an hour, I had to stop playing due to feeling worse from the experience.
Not to be deterred, I’d like to try to play something else, hopefully something my swimmy brain can currently handle. Here is a list of games I currently own, that I’m willing to try, and am hoping for recommendations of. I’m leaning more towards trying to play something text-based (as opposed to crazy amounts of movement in first person), but I’m open to ideas. If there is something not on this list that you think might work, I’m all ears to that, too.
Here we go:
Amnesia Collection
Among the Sleep
Beyond Eyes
Blackwood Crossing
Boggle
Bound
Claire
Dear Esther: Landmark Edition
Doki Doki Universe
DYING: Reborn
Emily Wants to Play
Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture
I Am Bread
Jazzpunk: Director’s Cut
Knee Deep
Knock-Knock
Kona
Layers of Fear
Lifeless Planet
N.E.R.O.: Nothing Ever Remains Obscure
Night in the Woods
PaRappa The Rapper Remastered
Persona 5
Roundabout
Soma
Soul Axiom
Stardew Valley
Tales From the Borderlands
The Vanishing of Ethan Carter
The Walking Dead: Season Two
Uncanny Valley
Wick
I am also hoping to at least try to play some Overwatch for the limited time PvE event.
I know some of the titles on this list are first person, but most of them are exploration games so I didn’t know if I’d be able to handle them or not. I hope to be able to. With the exception of Persona 5 and Overwatch, I have all of those titles digitally. I have more on physical disc, but many of them are first person combat games and I don’t know how well I’d do with them. Again, if you have any suggestions not seen here, please let me know. I’m just entirely hesitant to experiment with anything that requires my FPS skills. Trying to take everything in didn’t feel so good.
With that I ask: what are your gaming plans for the weekend?
And thank you in advance for the recommendations! I’m looking forward to them!

Please please PLEASE play Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture!
PLEEEEEASE!?!?!?!

It’s up on deck for trying today. I will do my best. :)
Fair warning, if the first person perspective is too much for me, I may have to wait on it. But I will try.

I mean, I haven’t played any of those other ones, but Rapture was, for me, as close to a religious experience as a game can be.

That’s high praise. I am all for trying it.

Sorry you are still feeling bad, I’ve missed talking/playing games together! I see Stardew Valley on your list, it’s one of my favorites games, simple to grasp but a ton of min, maxing if you’re looking for it. Plus the soundtrack is great! I hope you get feeling better. :-D

Ugh, me too. It is obnoxious. And my patience for it has run out.
I’ve missed that, too!
I may just try that out. I’ve heard nothing but good things about it.
And thank you. I’m super trying. Mentally, I’m beyond ready to feel better. Now I just need the rest of me to catch up.

I haven’t played it; Bound looks like a solid game to play. Also, any Telltale Games are worth your time. I’d also suggest Knack; it has some movement in it; nothing too crazy, imho! Lastly, still working thru Andromeda. I’m somewhere on the back half of the game, I think! Just going to keep playing until the credits roll. Plan to stick w/ the main missions (priority ops, as they refer to them).

I’m with you on the first two suggestions, but I would hard pass on Knack. I played it when the PS4 launched and I did not enjoy it at all. I forced myself to finish it even though certain parts were weirdly difficult on normal.
I hope the rest of your time with Andromeda goes well! I wish you good space adventuring!

I concur about Knack. There were some parts that seemed like they were more difficult than usual playing on “normal”. It felt as though the “boss fights” seem the most difficult on normal. If you play Bound, I’d like to hear your thoughts.

I am just glad to be done with Knack forever! I’m free!
I would love to play Bound. I love dance, so I feel like it’s a natural fit for me. :)

Persona 5 is engaging and unfolds more or less at whatever pace you want it to. Sounds perfect to play while sick.
I’ve been playing Persona 1 myself and liking it, but it is first person and has fairly janky movement, so I wouldn’t recommend it to play when you’re sick.

Man, I’d really like to start it. You saying that gives me hope!
I’m not even sure how I would play the first one unless I could somehow get it on my Vita. I would probably just start in on 5. I can’t wait!

Persona 5 seems like a good choice, lots of reading dialogue in it. If you end up playing Overwatch I’d definitely like to play with you.

I would love to play Persona, and I’d love to be able to team up for Overwatch. I can at least try a couple of matches to see how I fare. But I apologize in advance if I suck because I can’t concentrate!

My recommendations are either Persona 5, Stardew Valley or any of the Telltale games. I would suggest Tales From the Borderlands since you love the source material so much.
I feel bad mentioning it since Brad likes it so much, but I didn’t like Everyone’s Gone to the Rapture. I don’t know if it was me, but I had an incredibly difficult time getting the balls of light that activates the narrative to work and since they’re the only way the game saves progress I found it annoying. The last one took over a half hour to finally activate for me. That combined with how big the map is and how slow you move through it was one of the worst experiences I’ve had in a while.
This weekend I’m hoping to continue through Persona 5 as much as possible. I hope you’re able to play and enjoy the games you decide to try and feel better soon!

I’m definitely on board for Persona, Stardew Valley, and Tales From the Borderlands.
Oh dear. I can see why that would be so frustrating. The one major thing I’ve been worried about was the slow movement speed. I know there is a “run” button, but I’ve heard it’s pretty ineffectual. I’m sorry you had an unpleasant time with it.
I hope you have a good time with Persona! And I hope to be able to play some of it, myself!
And thank you. I’m willing the hell out of my system to get better.

Weird. I am seeing your comment twice. Perhaps it is on my end? Either way, I responded to the other one. :)

I’m sorry to hear that you’re still sick and struggling to play games. I do hope that you’re able to get some pain relief soon. I too haven’t played games all week but that’s because I’ve been buried in work (which will continue into the weekend). However, I plan to at least play some Overwatch both for the PvE event and for the sweet thrill of victory. Maybe I’ll have time for the new Telltale Walking Dead episode. Once my work deadlines are over I’ll return to Mass Effect Andromeda and other story based games. My go to game for when I’m sick is whatever Assassin’s Creed game I haven’t finished yet (I’m still on Black Flag). The pretty vistas and endless collectibles are soothing when I’m sick.

Aww, I’m sorry you’ve been buried in work! I hope you get to play at least a little this weekend.
Black Flag is such a gorgeous game. Those water physics! I am a sucker for water in games. :)
And thank you. I am willing myself to get better so hard it’s ridiculous. I WILL GET BETTER IF IT KILLS ME (but I hope it doesn’t).

I second Bound, Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture, Soul Axiom and The Vanishing of Ethan Carter. I’ve enjoyed what I’ve played of Soma, but panning/movement might be a bit jarring for illnesses w/ nausea.
I’m about 2 hours into Horizon and will likely play some more of it this weekend. I too would like to give the new Overwatch event some time.

Those are some solid recommendations, thank you. I’d like to get to all of them, honestly. And thank you for the heads up on Soma. I will probably steer clear of it for now.
I wish you much good Horizon-ing, and I hope to get to the Overwatch event, myself.

What a bummer that you are still feeling unwell, poor you! 😘
I think I would try either Stardew Valley or Persona 5. Both let you do things on your own time, maybe that would work better!

I agree with you! This is making me bonkers. If willing yourself to feel better actually worked, I’d have been running around in the sunshine weeks ago. Instead I am stuck to the couch with a barf receptacle near me.
Those both sound so good right now. If I can keep myself awake, you better believe I will try either or both!

I’m sorry to hear that you are still feeling sick, but it looks like you have a good list of games there that may be enjoyable nonetheless. I haven’t played most of them, but from the one’s I’m familiar with I would say that you can’t go wrong with Stardew Valley. It has a peaceful, soothing atmosphere and you can play for hours without even noticing. So I think those qualities make it a pretty good choice.
Most of the other games you have listed could be great as well but I would say you probably shouldn’t try Amnesia at this particular time. It’s an awesome game for sure, but it has some intense visual effects that may not make you feel so good. Just thought I’d give you a heads up on that.
I hope you have an enjoyable time with whatever you end up playing. As for myself, I’ve taken a break from Mass Effect in the hopes that it will become a little more polished after a few more patches. In the meantime I’m playing some Paragon and reading Star Wars novels.

The more I hear about Stardew Valley, the more I think it would be a good choice to relax with. Also, thank you for the heads up on Amnesia. I appreciate that!
Did the most recent round of patches not help Andromeda? Either way, I’m sorry it wasn’t the polished experience so many people wanted and expected.
How are the Star Wars novels?

The most recent patches did make some welcome and significant improvements but there are still some pretty major things that I hope they will address. The game definitely didn’t live up to expectations, but hopefully with time enough of its flaws will be ironed out. Until then, I’ve got plenty of other things to occupy my time.
The new Star Wars novels have been pretty good for the most part. Above all I enjoy how they add a greater amount of depth to the social/political aspects of the war and tell stories from all sorts of interesting perspectives within that galaxy far far away.
Then of course there is Battlefront 2 which they just revealed. And it would appear that they have improved upon every aspect of the first game; I couldn’t be more pleased. It really is a great time to be a Star Wars fan.

I feel like the Star Wars mania is at a fever pitch. Between the films and the supplemental materials and the new Star Wars land under construction at Disneyland, it’s bonkers.
And hopefully Andromeda becomes what people hoped it would be over time.
