June turned out to be a co-op bonanza, and I completed one more game than I thought I would. I paired up with a friend and beat Borderlands 2 (again!) in addition to the Master Chief Collection. All told, I beat seven games this June: Halo: Combat Evolved, Halo 2, Halo 3, Halo 4, You Must Build A Boat, 10,000,000, and Borderlands 2. Not bad when I only set out to complete four.
Hooray for success!
Now then. Onward and upward.
I love horror movies; I watch them more than any other genre. They generally don’t bother me, and, more often than not, they are unintentionally funny (and often crappy).
Horror games are an entirely different story.
My most anticipated game of the year is Until Dawn; a choose-your-own-adventure-style horror game where your actions are responsible for who lives, and who dies, in the game. Supermassive Games has confirmed that you can complete the game with all eight characters still living, and you had better believe I will try to keep everyone alive no matter how many weird noises they hear.
Until Dawn is one of the only games I will have on pre-order this year (as well as Tearaway Unfolded and Rise of the Tomb Raider), and I can’t wait to play it when it releases next month. I got a hands-on demo with it last September, and it played out a lot more like Heavy Rain than I thought it would. I think this game is going to be something fantastic.
That being said, I realized as much as I love horror movies, I haven’t played all that many survival horror games, and I want to remedy that so I am on my toes for Until Dawn’s release next month.
So for the month of July, my game challenge is to complete four survival horror games, beginning with my white whale: the original Fatal Frame.
I find Japanese horror to be among the most effective horror, and these games look right up my alley.
And they are going to make me scream like a little girl, I’m sure. Something about participating in the game makes it infinitely more effective at scaring the crap out of me.
I would like to get through the first three Fatal Frame games, and I would like to get at least the first two Silent Hill games under my belt as well. I’ve not played any! How is this possible?
My list of possible contenders for the four games completed in July are as follows:
Fatal Frame
Fatal Frame II: Crimson Butterfly
Fatal Frame III: The Tormented
Silent Hill
Silent Hill 2
Silent Hill 3
Silent Hill 4: The Room
The Evil Within
Murdered Soul Suspect
Condemned
Condemned: Bloodshot
Spirit Camera: The Cursed Memoir
Corpse Party
Dead Space
Doom 3
Resident Evil: Revelations
Alan Wake
Obscure: The Aftermath
Silent Hill: Origins
Siren
Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles
Resident Evil 4
As I said above, my goal is to complete the Fatal Frame trilogy and to at least complete the first Silent Hill. Does anyone have any suggestions of the others off this list? If so, which ones and why? I am a sucker for atmosphere, so keep that in mind.
And on that note, I will be booting up the first Fatal Frame on July 1st, and I hope to make it through without shrieking like some sort of screaming goat.
I wish myself good luck with that.
Cheers to the challenge!

WooHoo for success! June has actually been the best gaming month for myself as well ;)
Good luck on your upcoming challenge. I wish I could offer recommendations of my own, but horror really isn’t my bag. Although, I do have Dead Space kicking around (a gift from a friend) and intend to play it at some point.

indeed! i tanked a couple of months in a row earlier in the year, so i’m more than happy for the current success! :)
and yay! hooray for june! here is hoping july is equally good.
dead space is one of those games that i’ve always wanted to play but am a bit psyched out to play. i’ve read so much that says it is just constant dread…so…yes. that is daunting. :)

I like the theme that you have for this month. Horror games are often some of my favorites! :)
With that said, I have never actually finished a Fatal Frame game. I initially played them when I was much younger and they scared the ever-living crap out of me! I’d be interested to see how they hold up and am looking forward to hearing your thoughts on the series.
As for Until Dawn, I’m super excited as well! That game looks great!

why am i not surprised that we both like the theme? :)
i haven’t finished one, either! i think i’ve started the first one twice, but never gotten very far at all. i feel quite wussy about it!
perhaps you should do a similar game challenge? tackle the fatal frame games? ps3 makes it super easy.
i’m so excited to see until dawn’s release. i can’t even begin to know how many times i will play through it to see what can happen.
