A week from today it’s Friday the 13th and you know what that means: horror movie marathon!
To be fair, every Friday is Horror Movie Friday (yes, now in caps), and even though next Friday is actually Friday the 13th, there are so many movies on my horror movie playlist for this time of year, I thought I’d plan ahead. I mean, there are 11 Friday the 13th movies alone, never mind all the others that have something to do with this time of year.
I love a sense of occasion, and I do love horror movies, so this all comes together for me. Sure, some of the entries are gross, and I don’t love that (I’m more into the story and psychology of horror than the grossness), but I do love my horror marathons so here we go.
Friday the 13th: All Of Them
Obviously there will be every Friday the 13th movie. I will watch the 3D entry with my paper and plastic 3D glasses, otherwise that might not be fun to look at for an extended period. I only ever watch a few of them with any regularity (The Final Chapter probably being the one I’ve seen most next to the first entry), so I’m always surprised by the later content. And I honestly don’t think I’ve ever made it through the one where Jason is in space because, let’s be honest, it is entirely improbable, even for a series that’s already improbable.
The reason I’m posting this playlist today and not next Friday is because it’s going to take a while to wade through all 11 movies; I figured this marathon needed an early start.
Mrs. Voorhees, you put that knife down!
And look at Jason just chilling like he’s getting his senior pictures done.
April Fool’s Day (1986)
Even though the actual April Fool’s Day has passed, I figured I’d throw this one in here. I haven’t seen it in a while, and I recall it being interesting. I have yet to find a place where I can see the alternate ending, but I’d love to finally lock that one down.
Since it’s also nearing prom season, I think any movie that includes a prom is fair game for this playlist. The original Carrie is a classic and I always love revisiting it.
I will absolutely be skipping the remake. Yikes.
Final Destination 3
The third entry in the series is my favorite. Maybe it’s because part of it takes place at an amusement park and I’m a huge sucker for that in horror movies, or maybe it’s because it’s got a lot of interesting locations, period.
Who knows. I just like it the best.
The Fog (1980)
This is one of my favorite horror movies of all time and I will take advantage of any excuse to watch it. I almost think this edges out Halloween as my favorite Carpenter film. I love the atmosphere and location. Also, it takes place in April. Perfect timing.
I will absolutely be skipping this remake as well because holy yikes.
This takes place right around prom season so it seemed fair to toss it in the mix. I know a lot of folks didn’t care for this one, but I actually really liked it. I haven’t watched it in a while and I think it will be fun to revisit.
Prom Night (2008)
I’m not super keen on the original Prom Night (it’s a strange little movie), but I like the remake for sure. It’s one of the only cases where I like the remake more than the original.
Sorority Row (2009)
Speaking of cases where I like the remake more than the original, this is another such instance. I think the original Sorority Row is completely fine, but the remake appeals to me more. Also, I mean, come on, it has Carrie Fisher in it.
And the idea that this lady could be walking through a mass of bubbles and that it’s tension building is hilariously effective. I’m on board. Bubbles = danger.
Friday the 13th: The Game
Last, and perhaps least, I might try to get in a couple rounds of Friday the 13th: The Game. The last time my friend and I tried to find a match, we wound up in a seemingly endless loop and never found a game. I did hear there is now a special cabin area you can walk around and see all the different Jasons and that sounds delightfully suspenseful.
I know not much of this was game related, but hopefully all of you lovely people will shine that one on with me. I love my horror movie marathons, and this is no different. Time to stock up on popcorn, bubbly drinks, and all kinds of movie theatre candy.
I smell red licorice in my near future.
This weekend I’m going to finally go back to Far Cry 5 (I haven’t played it in a week, now), for reals try to start A Way Out with my partner, and have my regularly scheduled Borderlands 2 with a friend.
With that I ask: what are you planning on playing this weekend? Will you be doing anything fun for Friday the 13th next week?
Please be safe out there friends. Cheers!
