Okay, okay, so it’s not October yet. We still have 10 days on the calendar until that becomes so. I can’t even claim to be inspired by the autumn weather, as I live in southern California and pretty much all “seasons” look like summer with mild variations. I’m not joking, the ice cream man is present year-round. I once heard him making the rounds on Christmas week. It was pretty amusing.
I grew up in the Pacific Northwest, and autumn was most definitely a season. All my memories of the time come with crisp air, lots of rain, and changing colors.
I loved it.
So, as this time of year rolls around, the Halloween spirit flourishes for me. I adore Halloween. I watch horror movies all year, but this time of year becomes an unofficial marathon of horror movies, books, and games. I already started on the books, and the movies are always on deck. But the games I finally took a look at.
Last night, I made a list of all the current gen horror (or horror-ish) games I have that I’d like to get to next month, and yikes. There are many. They are as follows:
On disc:
The Evil Within
Little Nightmares
Murdered: Soul Suspect
Night Trap
Resident Evil 7: Biohazard
Digitally:
The Amnesia Collection
Among the Sleep
DYING: Reborn
Emily Wants to Play
Get Even
Here They Lie
Layers of Fear
Observer
Outlast
Perception
Resident Evil (Remastered)
Siren
SOMA
The Vanishing of Ethan Carter
What Remains of Edith Finch
Wick
Whew! What a list! And I’ve never played (or completed) any of them!
I’m hoping to knock out some of the bite-sized titles first between my monumental Destiny 2 play sessions, so if anyone has any recommendations (no spoilers, please), I’m all ears. I’m always into Halloween and such, but this year seems to be headed for a fever-pitch.
Case in point: I’m actually (for the first time in eight years) considering going to a theme park haunt! I may love my horror movies but there is something very different about walking through a maze where people are bent on scaring the actual crap out of you. I’ve got the promise of some lovely ladies to “protect” me during those mazes, so this seems like the ideal time to go!
Are you big on Halloween (the holiday, not the movie)? Do you decorate? Go to haunts? Watch movies? Read books? Play horror games? If so, do tell! I’d love to hear all about it. Do you have any Halloween traditions?
Today I am going to think about all the rad ways I will decorate for Halloween. I just picked up a couple of small things and I’m looking forward to incorporating them into the decor. Good times, indeed.
And please, let me know your recommendations from the list above. I’m hoping to get to as many of them as I can. That may be difficult with the behemoth of Destiny 2 and the upcoming release of Assassin’s Creed: Origins, but I’m going to give it the old college try!

I don’t really do much for Halloween but I hope you have a good one.

Aww, thank you. Not even horror movies?
I almost never DO anything for Halloween, but this year I’m hoping to get out there and change that a little. We’ll see. Either way, the decorations are going up this weekend!

I am in the same boat as Colton. Not huge on Halloween. I might do a haunted house or two. That rounds it out for me.

Hey, that’s something! Do you like haunts? Or do you just go if they are nearby? I love seeing how people decorate and set the haunts up, but I’m not huge on people jumping out at me. I scream and swear. A lot.

My gaming time has been so constrained this past year that I still have last year’s scary games to play (Dying Light and the Metro series). But I’m excited to dive back into “scary” games. I too am interested in Murdered: Soul Suspect, Observer, What Remains of Edith Finch? and SOMA. My backlog is so deep that unless there’s big sales (which there will be) I’ll try not to pick up new games this fall. I’ll look forward to your thoughts on whatever you end up playing. For now, this weekend, I want to get as far into Destiny 2’s campaign that I can then and I’ll put a co-op request on the clan whenever I happen to get on.

The good news is, Dying Light is fun anytime! I may not have loved Metro: Last Light, but I really wanted to. I hope you enjoy both when you get a chance to play them.
I hear you on on waiting for sales. I am so behind, it’s hard to justify buying new games unless they are on sale.
I wish you much luck on Destiny 2! I hope we get you all partnered up for co-op play. :)
