Microsoft came out swinging with the sheer volume of games at this press conference. I’m excited for the direction they are headed.

Stay tuned this evening for the recap of Bethesda’s presser!

  1. Is Anthem an Xbox exclusive game, Rebekah? That was the only game that piqued my interest. Is there a certain audience that Xbox was going for during their conference? Just asking!

    • I don’t think so, I think it was just that the world premiere gameplay trailer was on Microsoft’s stage.

I’m not sure about a specific audience, but I feel like they cast a wide net to snag as many people’s interest as possible. I was most excited for PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, but I’d like to find out how long the console exclusivity deal is for before I commit to buying it on the One. I’d prefer to wait it out for Sony.

    • Of course! I can’t speak to Cuphead, but I feel fairly certain Tacoma and the next iteration of Life is Strange will be coming to PS4 as well. I thought Tacoma was a timed exclusive. But I could be incorrect.

  2. Microsoft showed off a ton of stuff but there were only a few games that really caught my attention. So the conference overall felt fairly underwhelming for me, but I can see how others may feel differently.

On the positive side, Assassin’s Creed looks great and the setting in particular really stands out. The Last Night has a cool style that I can get behind, so I’m looking forward to learning more about that one. I was thrilled to see Ashen again as that game looks right up my alley. Although I have not yet played Life is Strange, I plan too soon and therefore it is cool to see that a sequel is in development. Finally, Anthem looks like it could be a lot of fun. I really liked the look of the mobility on display and I’m excited to explore more of that world.

Ultimately though, there just weren’t any major new exclusives revealed and I’m afraid that the lack of first party titles may continue to hurt Microsoft moving forward.

    • You and I have INCREDIBLY similar takes on the conference. I was super glad to see so many games (and I really liked what I saw of Assassins Creed: Origins!), but I wasn’t overly interested in many. Though I will definitely fire up the Xbox One to play PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds as well as Cuphead. Cuphead, finally!

  3. I was stoked to final have the opportunity to watch Microsoft’s press conference live since it was on the weekend. Now I have to appreciate my good fortune and not be a Grumpy Gus because Bethesda’s press conference is at midnight and I’ve work tomorrow. For one, Microsoft’s conference was live closed captioned and for that I’m deeply grateful (the law is based on content aired on TV and so the press conference has no legal obligation to be closed captioned).

I ended the event happy that Microsoft went back to the basics with 90 minutes of nearly continuous game talk and a minimum of stage antics. At the same time, I don’t know much about the “launch titles” or not enough to make me too excited and the known developers/IPs were scarce. I want to be more excited for Sea of Thieves but I’m just not and State of Decay 2 was pushed into next year. Still, I’m happy to get early August release dates for Tacoma and Life Is Strange. Onward to E3!

    • Oh good!! I was really hoping you’d be able to catch Microsoft’s presser, and even better that it was close captioned!

Holy moly wasn’t that amazing? I mean they showed SO MANY games, just one after another. I’m glad they went that route instead of a lot of technical talk about the Xbox One X. Which, incidentally, has a very confusing name. It’s like the the naming scheme of the Wii U all over again.
