October Game Challenge: Week Two (Movies Vs. Games)

This past week has been a strange one, and not much progress on my game challenge has been made. I’ve been in a big mood to catch up on horror movies, and in the past week, I’ve seen six or so that I hadn’t seen before. This week I hope to watch a handful more, including: Martyrs, The Boy, Neighbor, Goodnight Mommy, The Objective, Treehouse, Twixt, and We Are Still Here. That’s quite the lineup and I’m excited to finally see all of them.

I didn’t play much of anything this weekend, and what I did play was Destiny. No, I wasn’t having the best time, and no, the RNG has not improved for me. I did the Nightfall on my hunter and, for the second week in a row, everyone else got items that helped them level up and I got…three of coins.

I wasn’t amused.

I may have reached rank 5 in Iron Banner on Friday, but I have yet to receive much of anything that will help me level.

On Saturday I went to maybe the most b*tchin’ wedding I’ve ever been to (the groom walked down the aisle to the Jurassic Park theme, the bride to Careless Whisper), which took place at the Aquarium of the Pacific. Between the ceremony and the vows, the guests were free to walk around the aquarium, and I spent a significant amount of time with the jellyfish and the otters. Prior to leaving for the aquarium, I reminded myself to boot up Pokemon Go once I got there to see if I could find any water types since I’d be so close to the water.

I totally forgot.

I got to see real life water types, instead!

I had super wanted to start in on Mafia III this weekend, and I just didn’t have the time. I can’t wait to see the world of New Bordeaux. Perhaps today I will get the chance.

I also downloaded the demo for Outlast 2, and I’m quite looking forward to trying it out.

Even though I’ve had a miserable time in Destiny with the Iron Banner, I’m still trying to get leveled up for easier raiding, and it seems the banner has the chance to pay out faster than anything else. Someone I frequently play with has managed to break 380 while I am still right around 370. It makes me want to throw something imaginary, but I know that’s just how the RNG works.

It’s just hard when it works for those around me and not me.

And, on top of all this, Tuesday brings several new releases including Rise of the Tomb Raider on PS4. Yes, I played it already on Xbox One, but I never played the DLC and I always wanted to. I can already tell I’d like to do that on PS4. It’s bad enough my pile of shame of games is a zillion deep, I now find myself drawn to games I’ve already played!

Of course, I’ve played an awful lot of Destiny, and I’m still drawn to play that on a regular basis, so go figure.

So, in a familiar state, I find myself hopefully looking forward to this burgeoning week of gaming. Maybe this is the week I finally get it together and become super efficient; who knows?

What are you playing this week? Any new releases you are looking forward to? Are you getting PSVR on launch day?

  1. I’ll be playing Mafia 3,Rise Of The Tomb Raider and I’m pretty sure some Overwatch and Uncharted 4 thrown in somewhere.

  2. I’ll be playing Rise of the Tomb Raider; Mafia 3 will be once I finish TR. Not sure when/if I plan to get PSVR.

  3. I’m hoping to dive into Gear of War 4 this week once it arrives from Amazon. Other than that, I haven’t started on anything else. Looking forward, Titanfall 2 looks interesting as well as the Skyrim remaster. I should at least be done with the Gears campaign before those come out, but those are two huge games!

  4. I haven’t had much chance at all, it’s made me sad! My video game dream is that this weekend I can have a long gaming session that even includes gaming snacks (chips and dip are a big favorite). I’m trying to return to my backlog while I await Titanfall 2 at the end of the month. I am wanting to dive back into Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, Rise of the Tomb Raider, and Fallout 4. Also, I had a scary movie afternoon with my wife and my sisters. We watched The Visit and The House At The End of Time (an independent Mexican horror movie) and we had a ton of fun. So no matter what you do, keep on having fun.

    • Aww, I’m sorry. I hope your video game dream comes true this weekend.

And heck yeah for scary movie afternoon! I love horror movies year round, but in October they almost feel mandatory. :)
