All I’ve been doing is either playing The Division 2, thinking about The Division 2, or doing necessary life things, all the while wondering when I will get to play more Division 2.

When I haven’t been digitally running amok in Washington, D.C., I’ve been playing the first Borderlands via PS Now (I lament my decision to buy into a year of the service), and working on some major organizing projects. The organizing projects have been keeping me up to the wee hours of the morning (Saturday night I stayed up until nearly 6am). Borderlands has been lovely and comforting, but marred with technical issues not stemming from the game itself.

I love the concept of PS Now and have the ideal setup: excellent internet and a PS4 Pro hardwired into the router. Despite those two things, it regularly runs terribly for me. I’ve come to understand while playing Borderlands, when I get to a new area and the game is auto saving, I have to take cover or I will get boned. The streaming just doesn’t want to work properly and my character’s view goes all wonky, sometimes even doing a full 360. It’s bizarre. Borderlands isn’t the most precise shooter out there, anyway, and PS Now turns it into a suggestion of bullets at best. I’m sure I’ll finish the game, but I’m awfully wary of PS Now at this point. Playing a shooter or action-based game seems destined to turn out in a similar fashion. I wanted to go back to the first two inFamous games, but I’m worried the clonky service will ruin the experience; It’s a disappointment for sure. I’m more than a little sheepish I plunked down for a full year. I want to make a point of using the subscription, but I’m already feeling burned.

The Division 2 has been engaging as heck. Even as I write this, nearly falling asleep at my computer (and no, that isn’t hyperbole), I want to play more of it. I want to futz around D.C. and explore. I want to find more ridiculous clothing (I’ve acquired what can only be described as an amazing shirt and it is hilariously out of place which I love). I love playing games where you build up bases, and this is no exception. On Sunday, I unlocked a gaming area and was treated to a television with For Honor showing. I may have rolled my eyes exceedingly hard. There were small children present and it seems unlikely small kids were playing much For Honor after everything that transpired. But what do I know? I don’t have kids.

As much as I’m loving my time with The Division 2, and I really am, I have experienced a few issues I’m hoping get patched out far sooner than later.

The first (and most prevalent) is one of my skills: the seeker mine. Without exaggeration, about 7 times out of 10, it doesn’t work. And when I say it doesn’t work, I mean I launch it and the game won’t allow me to target enemies, even if they are relatively close to me. Sometimes I launch it and it just sits there, mocking me with it’s unmotivated lack of movement or purpose. Sometimes I launch it and it just disappears into the ground as though it melted or something. It’s shocking to me that it’s so unreliable. I can’t wait until I can replace it with something useful that actually works.

I’m also not as fond of the scan skill as I was of the one in the first game. This one proves to be middling at best, and I almost never find it useful or fruitful.

I’ve been seeing enemies spawn, immediately despawn, then spawn again moments later. As I was fighting my way down a street, I was getting shot but no one was around. A full 20 seconds later, an enemy spawned right in front of me, about 20 in-game feet away. I took them down and they immediately disappeared. It was weird. Another time I was fighting my way through a mission and I was getting shot from above through the ceiling, even though there weren’t enemies above us. It was, again, bizarre.

The social menu is hilariously lackluster compared to the first game. For some reason, I can’t use the D-pad to scroll down to the list of people I can invite; I have to use the left stick and THEN I can use the D-pad. But wait! It doesn’t list your friends who are online at the top; you have to manually scroll through ALL your friends to find who you’re looking for. I have no idea why it is the way it is but I very much hope they patch it to function as it did in the first Division.

There have been other issues here and there, but nothing has been enough to keep me from wanting to play. I mean, shoot, in the last 24 hours I’ve slept only 4 and I’m fighting the urge to boot up the game now at 2am.

It’s time for me to rest.

This week I’m sure I will be bopping around Washington, D.C. with my regular co-op partner and I’m so excited. We are currently on the lookout for matching outfits (we both already have the grey Apex pants; EEE!), and I’m jazzed to make that dream a reality.
