Status Report: Week 2 (The Absence Of Myself)

Over the past week, despite my best efforts, I largely ceased to be productive. I ceased to be much of anything at all, honestly. As I was laying there last night, trying to fall asleep (even though I was tired), I was thinking: I’ve been the absence of myself. No matter what I’ve tried to get done lately, I seem unable to complete it. All my organization projects are half-finished (and I usually always complete each one before moving on to the next) and creating this mass of clutter and I loathe clutter. One of my favorite things in life is a spare and tidy environment and, right now, that’s a long way off.

I’ve also made zero progress on my game challenge for the year. If I think I can get anywhere close to completing 100 games in 2019, I’m probably going to need to play games at some point. I feel like I can’t concentrate on anything and I’m tired all the time.

So, as is likely apparent, I’m securely residing in struggletown. Wahoo.

I think part of my roadblock is Everything. I don’t want to complete it because I don’t want it to end. I told myself it would be my first completion of 2019 and, to make that happen, I have to finish it. I know it must sound silly, but I really don’t want it to end. I’ve managed to stretch out the experience since it released in March of 2017, but I know it’s time to bring it home.

This week, I would be thrilled to get some organization projects completed, and finish (sob) Everything. I’m feeling the urge to play something actiony, and I’m feeling like that might be Shadow of the Tomb Raider. My only concern: the photo mode. Photo modes add an inordinate amount of time to games for me because games are so darn cool looking, I find myself wanting to dick around and take screenshots all the time. This is especially funny because I don’t do that in reality very often.

So, what might be a 12 hour game, if it has a photo mode, could turn into a 16 hour game or more.

Then I think it’s sort of dumb for me to put restrictions on myself for how I choose to enjoy games or to admonish myself for spending so long exploring various game worlds.

Time to think less and play more.

At least that’s the plan.

So there it is. This week I will force myself to finish Everything, and to pop back in to Shadow of the Tomb Raider for some action fun. If I get to anything else, that’s just a bonus.

With that I ask: what will you be playing this week?

Also, if you’re here and reading this, I just want to say a massive thank you, as writing has been rough lately. Traffic here has been down. Between that and struggling to write, I just want to say thank you; your support and interaction keeps me going.

Please be safe out there, friends. Cheers.

  1. I too want to get back in to Shadow of the Tomb Raider, but first I’ll need to make progress in AC: Origins. In anycase, I’ll probably put some time in to Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe and maybe pick up the remastered Onimusha: Warlords when it comes out tomorrow.

  2. Hi! I hope you’re fine and that you can complete your projects! And EVERYTHING!

This weekend I played What Remains of Edith Finch(Thanks Epic Store!) and had a good time with it! Really interesting game. Better than Knack 2 for sure!

This week I’ll be playing Mercenaries Playground of Destruction. Started last week and I’m halfway through. This game is long! Kinda repetitive and feels outdated in a lot of ways…but still a fun shooter that I can play while watching something on YouTube in the background. Maybe I’ll start a smaller game too…but I want to beat Mercenaries before Resident Evil 2 releases. That game is looking pretty good and I can’t wait to finally play the RE2 story as I never played the original.

Good week for you and your family!

    • Aww, thank you, Sergio! I really appreciate that!

Oh I’m so glad you played it! I agree, it was super interesting. Oh god, I can’t believe you played Knack 2. I saw your comment about it being the longest 12 hour game ever and I STILL think it’s funny. And very likely accurate. :)

I hope you got to play all those! And thank you! I hope the same for you. <3

  3. I hope that you’re finding a path through the day to day difficulties and finding solace in fun activities. Enjoy yourself! I’ve been playing Fallout 76, enjoying traipsing through West Virginia as a low stress activity (unless I wander into a super mutant camp). The other night, a couple high level players came across my camp and built me several higher end items that I couldn’t yet craft myself. I was touched by the nice gesture. I’ve built a rudimentary camp that defies physics by cantilevering from a cliff then I hung up a few posters and added a broken toilet for decor. Of course, I quit when the bugs overtake the fun. I’ve experienced glitches, freezing and horrific pop-ins.

    • I am definitely trying! I know that sounds funny, that I’m trying to have fun or trying to enjoy myself. I feel like a robot when I say it that way. But I really am trying. <3

Oh man! I have to admit, I miss Fallout 76 even though it took a colossal series of dumps on me. I loved exploring the world. I just didn't love so many hours of progress and such completely negated. Blurg.

That's so kind! I love to hear things like that! I love that they helped you instead of them trolling you. And your camp sound delightful!
