Status Report: Week 1 (A Dog Tried To Eat Me)

I should know better than to think a new year is a fresh start. I know a fresh start can happen anytime, anywhere, but I harbored a teeny hope this year might start off well.

AHAHHHHAHHHHHHAHHAAAAAAAAAA

I haven’t been able to go to the dog park with regularity over the past several months due to my health. I decided to go on Saturday even though I was feeling rough. I was standing around the main park with several people and a dog I’ve known for years jumped up and bit me, unprovoked. I was shocked, literally shocked. She didn’t break the skin, but it hurt like crazy. Her person did NOTHING.

I wasn’t crazy about that.

In the nearly five years we’ve been going to the dog park, I’d never been bit before.

About ten minutes later, she did it again, only harder. I think I yelled SH*T (which I assume was loud), and walked away from her. I basically hid between two planters while I looked at my arm (thank god for thick hoodies). Her bite didn’t break the skin, but it immediately knotted up and began to bruise.

Now this dog has had a history of being a sh*t to other dogs, but I’d never known her to do this to a person. Her person barely seemed concerned. He didn’t discipline her and didn’t remove her from the park for the day.

I wasn’t happy.

By the evening, it hurt worse, and all day yesterday, it felt terrible. I don’t think I need to go to the doctor, but I’m peeved the person did virtually nothing about it. If I had been in his place, I’d have been MORTIFIED.

Because of all that, I slept even more than usual, and didn’t game at all over the weekend. I sat there, on the verge of tears most of the time, just feeling sh*tty.

The more I thought about it, the more upset I got. I was literally just standing there talking to other people. I wasn’t engaging with her or with any other dogs at the time. It freaks me out that I could just be standing there minding my own business then be aggressively bit for no reason.

It wasn’t a great weekend for me.

This has been Dog Park Drama with Rebekah.

I hope that’s the only episode ever.

So, the first week of the year didn’t start off so hot for me. I haven’t played anything since New Year’s eve/day, and I’ve seemingly been unable to connect with anyone for our usual co-op gaming. I feel very out of sorts.

Today I’m going to finish Everything, even though I don’t want it to end. Ever.

Aside from that, this week I’m hoping to get to a game someone recommended to me called Sylvio, and either dive into Bulletstorm or Prey. Heck, I’d also like to start in on Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.

Just looking at that I will be lucky to get to any of them. Oof.

With that I ask: what will YOU be playing this week?

Please be safe out there, friends. Cheers!

  1. I would have been so embaressed if my dog just randomly bit someone. I mean, I felt bad that my old dog gingerly bit an asshole kid that wasn’t playing with him nicely at a social gathering (I was more angry at the kid, who was old enough to know better, and his stupid parents afterwards but at the time I removed my dog from the situation). Anywa, sorry that your year has started off poorly. I hope you get to play some stuff this week.

I’d like to play some more Assassin’s Creed Origins and start on the first expansion to TIE Fighter, but I should really play more of a game I accepted a code for to review. I’ll probably just want to lie in bed though when I get home.

    • Oh my god, me too. I’d have been MORTIFIED. But see, even in that situation, you removed your pup from the scene. Thank you for being responsible!

      I haven’t played anything. :( Boo.

I can very much relate to your entire last paragraph. Wanting to play, sometimes needing to play, but just wanting to lay there instead. <3 I hope whatever you did went well.

  2. Sorry to hear you had to deal with that! And shame on that dog owner for not doing anything. The very least they could have done is apologise to you and move the dog away. Still, I’m depressingly unsurprised at the lack of consideration some people show these days.

My gaming this week will mostly be Atelier Totori (and perhaps Meruru if I finish Totori) for my articles, punctuated by some Atari Flashback Classics and maybe some Breath of the Wild if I can find time for it.

    • Thank you! To be fair, the dog’s person mumbled an apology but never disciplined the dog or removed her for the day. He should have done both. He basically let me know he doesn’t care that his dog is aggressive and won’t do anything about it. That upsets me.

And I am also depressingly unsurprised.

That’s quite a week of games!! I hope you enjoy whichever ones you get to!

  3. I concur with everyone else about your dog park experience. I have intentions of finishing Tomb Raider before Feb. releases; I have reached a sticking point; I can’t seem to get back into the game mentally. Thoughts?
