I Became A Hole…And I Liked It A (W)hole Bunch

Last night, as encouraged by Donut County, I finally got the chance to BE A HOLE:

And it was soothingly glorious.

Donut County is a delightfully weird and whimsical game and I loved it. I’m not a trophy chaser, but I will definitely go back this weekend to see what I missed because I want to see what other bizarre things happen.

Also, even though you’re playing as a hole, you are technically a raccoon named BK who is controlling the hole. Some time back, I was compared to a raccoon by a friend because I compulsively need to wash my face and hands throughout the day, whether they are gross or not (but, let’s be fair, my face is often gross and in need of washing). So the chance to play a game as a raccoon appeals to me in and of itself.

Also I just like creatures so: win-win-win.

.

In an effort to keep this one short today (I’ve not been feeling well all week and I’m desperately in need of more rest), I will close this out with my plans for the weekend:

First and foremost, I will be getting prepared for Destiny 2’s Forsaken expansion by teaming up with any number of lovely folks for space hijinks. I will also finally be starting Guacamelee 2, Shape of the World, and, hopefully, Strange Brigade! From all the Strange Brigade footage I’ve seen, it looks interesting; I just hope it plays as good as it looks. I’m always down for some four player co-op, and I love the tone of Brigade.

If there’s any time left over, I’m going to go back to trigger the other endings of Asemblance: Oversight (I loved it, but more on that later).

With that I ask: what will you be playing this long weekend? What’s the next major release you’re excited for?

Please be safe out there, friends. Cheers!

.

P.S. Donut County is rad and I hope you check it out if you are curious.

  1. I’m gonna try and play Donut County this weekend as it seems right up my alley. I’ve heard it’s pretty short which is both good and bad, on one hand I don’t have the time for a 60+ hour game anymore on the other hand I’ve heard it’s like 3 hours long which is way to short for me. Honestly I’m just wasting time until Spider-man and Red Dead 2 come out.

  2. Hi Rebekah, unrelated to Donut County but I wanted to ask you: in the past weeks I have a Featured Series running on my site about Animal Crossing Memories. I know you played it a lot in the past and still play Pocket Camp. Would you want to do a guest piece about your memories?

  3. I hope that you’ve rested and that you’re set for the onslaught of new releases that’s coming. This past week was my birthday which gifted me time to play video games and I’ve had even more time over the weekend. I’ve played a gamut of games! For my birthday I was gifted God of War then with a birthday coupon I picked up The Last Guardian and Final Fantasy X/X-2 Remastered. I started God of War, finally got into Assassin’s Creed: Origins (it’s great!) and made progress in Horizon Zero Dawn. Then I played a handful of Overwatch placement matches and I’m one last (no fun) stealth sequence from the end in Observer. It’s been a gaming bonanza!

    • Oh I’ve periodically rested, but never when it’s dark out! D2 has rendered my system all wonky.

Aww, happy birthday!! I’m sorry I missed wishing you a happy birthday on your birthday. I’m so glad it sounds like you got such dedicated gaming time! Holy crap you got to a LOT of things! WHEEE!!! I’m so happy for you!

Also, side note, The Last Guardian wrecked me. I still firmly believe Trico is one of the greatest achievements in video game history, and I say that with all sincerity. I still get choked up every time I think of him. The Last Guardian is one of the only games I’ve ever reviewed.
