When Gaming Infiltrates Your Dreams

The other night I had a bizarre dream; it was one of those dreams that feels so real right up until you wake. It was present day, in the real world. I was carrying two swords just like Geralt from The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt: one silver, one steel. I was traveling along the road with someone I didn’t recognize (but in the dream we knew each other), and these crazy things started to surround us. The person with me told me we had to fight them off, but only through sword fighting. I was like, wait, what now? In the dream, the moment was high stakes and I was like, well, f*ck it, let’s do this. So I started trying to swing the sword around and I was like, am I supposed to make contact with these bad guys? All I’m doing is swinging this thing like an idiot. Somehow I pulled it together and fought off the bad guys with my mysterious friend, but it was baffling. After we were successful, we turned to each other and were like, HOLY CRAP WE REALLY JUST DID THAT.

When I woke up I was like: OH WHAT THE F*CK WAS THAT ABOUT?!

That’s far from the only video game related dream I’ve had. Back in the day when Tetris was on the NES and the Game Boy, I used to play like crazy. When I’d be laying in bed trying to sleep at night, I’d close my eyes and see the pieces fall and shift them into place. I’d fall asleep to those images. The same thing happened with Dr. Mario (boy oh boy do I love Dr. Mario).

When I first started playing Borderlands, I had dreams where I saw loot lighting up the battlefields. I’d see the blues, purples, and oranges of all those weapons. Occasionally I’d see a colored light in reality and I’d think it was loot. For a while there, I was like, OKAY BRAIN.

I’ve had dreams where I had to choose dialogue options. I’ve had dreams where there are QTEs. I’ve had dreams with unique art styles.

I love how bonkers games can be, and I love when that sort of bonkers infiltrates my dreams. One of my favorite games is Far Cry 3, and after I played it back in 2012, I had some ridiculous dreams.

My favorite game of all time (BioShock) had quite the effect on my dreams. I’d see the locations, the lighting, hear the sounds and the music. I don’t recall there ever being anyone else present at those locations, just me, strolling around Rapture.

I just love video game dreams.

Have you ever had video game dreams? If so, what were they?

.

It being Friday (WAHOOO), I’ve got weekend gaming on the brain. I’ve got several smaller games on the immediate docket (Burly Men At Sea and Far From Noise up first), but I’m sure I will be playing more of the Solstice of Heroes event in Destiny 2, as well. I’m also hoping to knuckle down and finally finish Everything, though I’m already sad it will soon be over.

What are YOU hoping to play this weekend?

Please be safe out there, friends. Cheers.

  1. That’s a fun dream about The Witcher!

A few weeks ago I was playing a lot of Jurassic World Evolution and I had this weird random dream where I was playing the game and had a mission to breed a new Dinosaur while playing the song Despacito in the park. SO RANDOM. I also had the “problem” of closing my eyes and seeing the Saints Row map after playing too much Saints Row.

I finished Crossing Souls this week. The game is alright, I didn’t like the writing very much but the narrative is fun and the game GOES PLACES. It’s a really weird game. Not the fun cartoon inspired game I was expecting! I’ll see if something new grabs my attention this weekend.

    Have a great weekend!

    • It was so bizarre. I haven’t played it in over a year and that dream hit me from nowhere. Oh, brain.

      HA! That’s wonderful!

Aw, nuts. I’m sorry it wasn’t as good as it could have been. I still want to play it eventually, but I’m not as hot on it as I was.

  2. Interesting dream to have. Just more of the same playing God of War; being in Ivaldi’s workshop. I might try my hand with the Valkyrie’s; no promises though! A little over a month until Spidey drops.
