Status Report: Week 2 (Where Is My Shark Costume?)

Last week I talked about my fondness for dressing video game characters as sharks. I started playing Dead Rising 4 yesterday, and what I wish I could find in all those menus is when and where I can get that sweet shark suit to wear all over Willamette while dispatching hordes of zombies.

Granted, I’m only a couple of hours into the game and I feel sure I won’t get access to it for a while, but the impatient part of me would like that shark suit immediately.

I’m not altogether taken with Dead Rising 4 so far. I feel like the movement is floaty (no matter how much I tweak the settings), and the camera isn’t often on my side. I also feel like I’ve taken some sweet photos that the game doesn’t seem to agree are, in fact, sweet.

I’m definitely willing to give it a while longer to get into but, right now, I’m not exactly feeling it.

My partner and I were in the car yesterday talking about sharks in games in general, and shark costumes in games, specifically. He asked me if LittleBigPlanet had a shark costume and, though I couldn’t recall at the time, I looked it up and there is a shark costume! After seeing pictures, I had a dim recollection of finding it in the first game.

Behold:

It’s like someone took Lilo & Stitch curtains and made a shark outfit. I absolutely dig it.

When I went searching for that costume, I found out there is a shark section of LittleBigPlanet 3, a game I’ve always meant to play and somehow never got around to.

That information shoots it straight up my list of games to play.

In addition to carrying on with Frank West in Dead Rising 4, I’m hoping to get to What Remains of Edith Finch today. I heard you can temporarily play as a shark and, since it appears I’m in a thoroughly shark mood, I think I have to finally hunker down and play it.

Shark me up.

I’m also hoping to get to a few other smaller games this week. If I am successful and can finish a few, I’m going to jump into one of several larger games. Right now, I’m feeling the urge to either go back and play Okami HD, or take the plunge and finally play Persona 5. I know the average playtime for Persona 5 hovers around the 120 hour mark, but I feel like if I start the year off with the completion of such a huge game, the rest of the year is gravy.

I’d also like to resume my horror movie Friday schedule. It’s one of my favorite ways to ring in the weekend.

With the newly released editions of a large amount of Studio Ghibli films, my partner and I have decided to watch one per week until we make it through the available catalogue. I’m looking forward to seeing the Ghibli films I’ve missed over the years. I’m also bracing myself for Grave of the Fireflies, as I’ve heard it’s just brutal to the emotions.

The one game I’m certain I will continue playing this week is Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp. My campsite is decked out in glorious amenities and items, and I’ve almost reached rank 50. A handful of my camp animals are nearly level 20; once they reach that mark and I start collecting portraits, you can be sure I will set up an area at my camp to display them. It’s exciting! My carousel opens tomorrow, then I will build my pool!

I play so much more Pocket Camp than I ever thought I would.

With that I ask: what will you be playing this week?

  1. I’m still working through Assassin’s Creed Origins…

I may have broken the game a little bit though. I’ve been doing nothing but side quests, and I’m level 40 already, which is the max. The main story quests are currently recommended level 15-20.

  2. I’m still working on Fractured But Whole and I also started Doki Doki Literature Club. I’m enjoying both so far. Have fun with whatever you decide to play and I hope you have lots of fun shark related shenanigans!
