Status Report: Week Thirty-Six (Destiny 2 All Day, Every Day)

Over the weekend, I didn’t really play anything. It’s almost funny.

All I can think about is Destiny 2. I’m not even joking. I haven’t been this hyped for a game since Borderlands 2 (I was pretty out of control, hype-wise, for that release) back in 2012.

All weekend I’ve been trying to avoid spoilers. Ultimately, it won’t matter if it’s spoiled or not, I’m still incredibly excited to play it. I dove in to Byf’s intense 90 minute Destiny lore video and wow! I’ve dropped over 1,000 hours into Destiny and I didn’t know at least half of what was in the video:

I’m glad I took the time to watch it, and even more glad Byf made it.

Every time I thought I might actually play something else this weekend, I just sat there thinking about Destiny 2. I started working on my release day timeline and who I would play with and when.

So, get this: I will be doing three separate playthroughs.

I’m so excited.

My partner and I are going to pick up our copies at faux midnight release (9pm here on the west coast) on Tuesday night. As soon as we come home, I’m going to start a Titan run with him as we do our playthrough.

Wednesday morning (ideally, as it will depend on when his copy is delivered that day), my friend Grunts (who I played the initial Destiny with upon release) and I will be meeting again for more space adventures. Since I did a Warlock run with him before, I’m doing it again! It will be just like old times, only better since it’s current times.

And, finally, on Wednesday evening, our regular fireteam of three will be hitting the game. I saved the best character (in my opinion) for last, and will be doing my Hunter run with my partner, and my friend Degan. I’m so freaking excited I can’t even tell you.

I’ve been considering importing my characters from the first game into the second, but I think I want to rebuild all new characters since the old ones can’t be altered. I’m hoping the legacy rewards are tied to your account and not your characters. If they are the latter, I guess I’m importing my characters after all.

Last go around I had an Awoken Warlock, a Human Hunter, and an Exo Titan. After learning more about the lore, I thought this time I would go with an Exo Hunter, a Human Warlock, and an Awoken Titan. Weirdly, I didn’t plan for that to match the leaders of the Vanguard, but there we are.

I like the idea of my consciousness uploaded to a robot that will “live” forever. I don’t deal well with death, and that seems like a good work around. I mean, sure, it’s just in a game, but it’s a nice thought to toy with.

Holy crap you guys, I just realized: tomorrow night Destiny 2 will be in my hands and on my PS4.

If I had to rate my excitement levels, I’d say I’m around a 14/10. All I need to do now is a thorough clean of the apartment, round up some healthy gaming marathon snacks, and I’m good to go!

So, my friends, that’s where I’m at; virtually buzzing with excitement about Destiny 2.

What did you play over the weekend? Are you enjoying a three-day weekend due to Labor Day? If so, how did you take advantage of the long weekend? What are you hoping to play this week?

If anyone needs me, I will be spazzing out in various rooms as I pretend to clean while thinking of very little that is not space-related. Cheers, friends!

ZOOOOOOOOOM!!!

  1. I’m in super work mode and so I’ve only dabbled in the Call of Duty: WW2 beta. It’s fun. I may be the only person but I enjoy futuristic warfare along with its extra gadgets and perks. This fall I’ll likely pass on COD: WW2 until a sale. But I’ve appreciated the opportunity to sample it. The War Mode is fun. Overwatch has taught me how to enjoy objective based multiplayer matches. I’ve a copy of Destiny 2 coming on Wednesday and I’m super excited but I’m not sure how much play time I’ll have for the foreseeable future. I’ll have to make some time to watch that Destiny lore video. If I can just hit a few more milestones then I can sit back but it may take me the better part of a month to get it all done.

    • Oh wow, you already work so much, what does SUPER WORK MODE entail?

I’m also thinking about waiting until COD: WWII goes on sale. I just don’t see myself getting to it immediately.

You are getting Destiny 2 at launch but might not be able to play it? OH NOOOOOOOOO!

The lore video is incredibly well done. I hope you get to watch it.

I’m not sure I understand: of which milestones are you referring to?

  2. ADVENTURES! IN SPACE! This is going to be a lot of fun. I too have felt the spike of hype over the past couple of days and at this point, I’m super excited to start playing. Also, I feel like Bungie has kept a lot of the game under wraps this time around and that’s great because there is going to be so much cool stuff to explore and discover.

    • SPAAAAAAAAACE! Oh man, I’m so excited. I am getting exponentially excited as the hours pass.

I agree. I feel like they have deliberately kept so many things quiet and I like that! I can’t wait to discover the crap out of things.

WE ARE GOING TO HAVE A RAD TIME OH YES WE WILL

  3. I’m glad that Destiny 2 is finally here for you! I won’t be picking it up at launch but I’ll keep an eye on it to see how it all comes together. I’ve been playing Yakuza 0 mostly and even though I’m six chapters in, there’s still more stuff being introduced into the world. I’m loving the story and despite the serious crime drama, the side stuff is some of the most bizarre things I’ve done in a game. Have a great time on your space adventures!

    • Thank you! Me too!!

You sold me on Yakuza 0 at “bizarre things.” I love an element of bizarre in, well, everything! I hope you continue to enjoy it!

Aww, thank you! I really am loving it so much. :)
