My Endless Glee With PS4 Screenshots: Take Six

From the launch of the PS4, I’ve loved the screenshot function. I’ve written previously about my initial love of the feature, my love of screenshots in The Witcher 3, specifically, my love of Destiny-specific screenshots, my love of various games’ screenshots, and even more various games’ screenshots.

So much creativity and talent goes into creating video games, I’m glad it’s easier than ever to document these wonderful digital moments to share with others.

.

Dark Souls 3 continues to be more beautiful than I expected. I mean, sure, there are still weird sexual nightmare creatures that make me want to shower a dozen times in succession, but there are often locations that make me want to run around taking screenshots. Of course, I can’t do that as often as I like due to jerks who seem to invade my game every ten minutes, but still, I wish I could spend more time just appreciating the environments.

.

This was another location I just wanted to poke around. The area was gorgeous, but I literally got invaded four times here, so unfortunately I didn’t get a chance to take as many shots as I’d have liked. I didn’t even get to take one of the giant enemy crab just beyond these trees!

.

Onion Bro is adorable. I’d pretty much do anything to help him.

.

After defeating an imposing foe together, Onion Bro and I had a nice nap nap.

.

My co-op partner and I had a nice nap nap in the style of Onion Bro.

.

This area was absolutely beautiful. I braved getting invaded just so I could take some screenshots. I didn’t want to forget what it looked like.

.

Destiny’s winter festival found the tower all dressed up for the occasion. I didn’t plan for my Grasp of Malok to match the decor, but it did.

.

That’s an engram snow globe on my head. I had just jumped around to get the snow to swirl.

.

Destiny has some of the best flavor text on their items.

.

More delightful flavor text.

.

I love this screenshot of my regular co-op partner and I. I look silly and he looks like he’s dancing in the plants.

.

Everything is a stunning game. I’m better for having played it.

.

My sentiments exactly.

.

So many moments in this game gave me pause, like this follow up to the previous text.

.

We call it love.

.

I may love horror movies, but I’m still on the fence about Friday the 13th the game. It could also be because I seem to have the worst luck of getting killed just seconds into the match. I’ve literally seen Jason spawn in right behind me at the start of more than a few matches. I happened to live slightly longer in this match and found Mrs. Voorhees gravestone.

.

My co-op partner and I were unintentional twinsies.

.

The Killing Floor 2 has surprised me with how fun it is. I continue to go back to it for a few matches at a time. When they recently introduced a carnival-themed area, I was entirely on board. That Tunnel of Love is not very lovely. There’s a whole bunch of very bad people in there.

.

That smile is unnerving. Also, I saw this thing fling a Zed across the area and it was glorious.

.

I am a sucker for the “haunted house through the gate” shot. And this reminds me that I need to get back to Resident Evil 7: Biohazard sooner than later.

.

That is an extreme bonnet. Perhaps it’s a sleep bonnet?

.

Hey Bro detergent. Or whatever it is. Apparently they love this stuff in the Resident Evil universe.

.

Titanfall 2 was far more beautiful than I thought it would be. And this reminds me that I need to pop back in and finish the game.

.

The color saturation in this Titanfall 2 level was gorgeous.

.

Some of the locations in Ghost Recon: Wildlands are strange. This was one of them. There are horror movie levels of photos on the walls.

.

That’s a weird looking scarecrow.

.

An even weirder looking scarecrow. The scythe is intimidating.

.

I am a huge sucker for water in games. I love looking at it, I love listening to it, I love splashing in it, and I love swimming and boating in it. Wildlands has offered me all of these things. And look at that rain!

.

And speaking of water in games, look at the rain on the pavement! I was pretty impressed with the level of detail.

.

This is the most robust entry in my screenshot series, and I’m already looking forward to future installments! Are there any games you’ve especially enjoyed taking screenshots in? If so, please share your favorites with me on Twitter. You can find me at @rebekah_lang.

I can’t wait to see your screenshots, too!

  1. I know I’ve said this in the past, but if you like screenshots, you really need to sit yourself down and play Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture. It’s one of the most beautiful games I’ve ever played.

    • I’m not sure I understand; are you saying you think I should play Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture? I think this is the first time you’ve mentioned it…

      :)

If I wasn’t in the middle of three games right now (Dark Souls 3, Wildlands, and Wolfenstein), I’d be tempted to start it.

  2. Your game screen shoots are great! Compiling screenshots takes a bit of time and so I haven’t done so in awhile but it’s one of my favorite blogs to write. So much work goes into level design, I love taking the time to appreciate those details. Uncharted 4 has such beautiful environments that I love looking around and then laughing at a detail such as a Sony branded cell phone.

    • Thank you! I do love taking them. :)

It’s always more time consuming to make a screenshot post than it feels like it should be! So I definitely agree.

I may not have loved Uncharted 4, but I absolutely agree about the world being so beautiful. There were times I just looked around in wonder that people created that experience. Almost none of my screenshots of UC4 did justice to how wonderful the game looked while I played it.

I never noticed the Sony cell phone! That’s too funny!

  3. Rebekah, always a pleasure admiring your screenshot photography. As you know I take my shots & post them on Twitter. My favorite games in regards to screenshots have been Sniper Elite 4, Journey, any Tomb Raider game (current gen consoles albeit) & Uncharted 4, to name a few.

  4. Nice shots! It stinks that you can’t enjoy getting some more Dark Souls 3 pics without being invaded. Is going in offline an option or do you take screenshots at a more spur of the moment basis? I’ve never used the screenshot functionality but I can appreciate a great environment and the attention to detail that game developers put into the games we enjoy.

    • Thank you! And indeed it is! Last night I got in some surprise Souls, and holy crap, I think I only got to take a couple of screenshots when I was at Firelink. In a fairly short time frame, I was invaded twice out in the world. Boo!

Going offline would be great, except I’m playing through the game with a friend which means we are stuck online. And since I have to be embered to get him in my game, that also means I am invadeable. Yet another booooooooo.

I definitely take screenshots as the moments present themselves. I have definitely gotten killed before because I was taking one. :) Not in Dark Souls, but in other games.

Aren’t the environments in games amazing?! Sometimes I just sit there and marvel that everything I’m seeing in that universe was created by people and it blows me away.
