Status Report: Week Eight (Microscopic Improvement)

nioh

No no, don’t get excited from that image; I still haven’t played anything.

But.

There is hope!

Last week, as I was on the couch in agony, I had a revelation about what might be the issue and, while I will have to wait another week to verify this with my doctor in person, I think I’m on to something. I’ve been testing a theory for four days now, and I’m seeing the faintest hint of feeling better.

That hint gives me hope.

So, while I am noticing a teensy improvement, I still haven’t felt well enough to play anything. Yes, that’s a bummer, but I will take what I can get at this point. Hopefully I continue to improve and this week allows me to finally make some progress in any of the following games: Titanfall 2, Resident Evil 7, and Dishonored 2.

My partner had heard me lamenting about wanting to play Nioh, but we didn’t have it and I had mentioned it was currently sold out on Amazon and none of our local GameStops had a copy. I ended up checking on Friday to see if the GameStop closest to us had been restocked and sure enough, they had a copy and he went to pick it up for me! I’m not sure how good I will be at the game, but I can’t pass up the chance to play as samurai Geralt. I’m looking forward to dabbling in this when I am feeling better.

I am also starting to get a tiny bit excited about Horizon: Zero Dawn. I hadn’t been excited for it and I’ve never been a huge fan of the Killzone series (particularly Shadow Fall), but I had an open mind about Horizon. The more I’ve been hearing about it this past week, the most interested I find myself in Far Cry Robodinos. I know the review embargo is up today and I will be anxious to read the early reviews. I have it on pre-order, but with how far behind I am at the moment, I don’t know when I will even be able to play it.

Being sick for over a month really puts a damper on, well, everything. Also it’s uncomfortable.

So there you have it: a super minor improvement in health and no progress in games.

I’ll take what I can get.

What have you been playing? What will you be playing this week? Are you excited for Horizon: Zero Dawn?

This year is an anomaly to have so many heavy hitting games stacked in the early months. And who knows what the rest of the year will end up looking like?

What are you hoping gets announced/released this year?

  1. Hey Rebekah! Glad to hear things are looking up, FINALLY! Yay! I’d like to hear your final thoughts on RE7 & Dishonored 2. Neither fall into my “wheelhouse” for gaming; I’m always interested in hearing thoughts from those who enjoy those types of games. :) Just finished Knack this past weekend. Looking forward to getting back into The Wolf Among Us. Still have some unclaimed trophies to get. I may dive back into Tomb Raider; at the moment, I’m not sure. Looking forward to Mass Effect, Tekken 7, & Ghost Recon ( pending reviews).

    • They are a TEENSY bit better, but make no mistake, I still feel VERY unwell. Just ever so slightly less unwell. But hey, I will take what I can get!

Hey, nice job on finishing Knack! And just thinking about all those games set to release soon amazes me. This year is so top heavy with amazing releases. It’s exciting!

      • Even teensy means you’re improving. Can’t wait for Horizon’ release. Meanwhile, I’ll be playing The Wolf Among Us.Do you have a plan for when multiple games release within weeks of each other? That would make for an interesting blog or two, no?!

        • All my gaming plans have been derailed so far this year. I wasn’t planning on being ill for over a month to where I can’t even game…so that puts me at a disadvantage.

What I would normally do is just play the shorter of the two first, unless I really wanted to play the longer one first.

  2. Glad you’re starting to feel better and I’ve just been playing Overwatch and Final Fantasy XV. Hell yes I’m excited for Horizon.

    • Curious, indeed. I started wondering if it was a side effect of a medication I take for migraines. So far, I think I’m on to something. But hopefully my doctor has some ideas when I see her next week. I hope.

      • That would be something! Scary, because I bet you need those medicine too. A couple of years ago I went through the medical rigamarole to find a medicine that would help my migraines. Nothing worked. I’m always surprised when I realized that most medication they prescribe are for another ailment. And they incidentally find out it has effect on the migraine too.
        Good luck!

        • Unfortunately, that doesn’t surprise me. I’ve been through literally every type of medicine for migraines over the last twenty years and none of them have truly helped long term. I’ve found two types of meds that help my “breakthrough” migraines, and that’s really as far as we’ve come. Fiorinal for the semi-awful ones, and Maxalt for the truly awful ones. And even Maxalt doesn’t work on all of them. It’s depressing.

Isn’t that strange? How they are almost always designed for something else? It’s interesting.

          • Well, I do have a theory about that. The majority of people who have migraines are women. Would research for a good dedicated medicine have gotten more progress if it was an ailment that was linked to men? It’s insane that there’s not a cure or permanent relief!

            • It is interesting how it shakes out for females versus males. I’ve heard a lot attributed to hormones, but even that is a slippery situation. Apparently there are also multiple types of migraines and I have three of them so what works for one type may not work (and even aggravate) another. So that’s even more frustrating.

But I still keep trying whatever my neurologist asks me to. I’m a good little guinea pig.

  3. Glad that you’re on the rise, no matter how slight the progress! I want to complete a game or two before Mass Effect Andromeda releases. Right now, I’m having too much fun in Gears of War 4. The new execution mechanic is satisfying to land and enemy AI will pull it off against the player too. I’m having way to much fun with the brutal combat.

    • No such thing as way too much fun! You deserve to have all the fun you want!

And I hope you can wrap up whichever games you choose before Andromeda. It’s less than a month, now!
