July Game Challenge: Week Four (Not Much To Report)

resident evil 7 biohazard

This may be the most uneventful post in game challenge history, as I have so little to report on my end of month wrap up.

Let’s see, this past week I played almost nothing. I logged in to Borderlands: The Handsome Collection a few times to exchange gear with my brother, and I played a handful of matches here and there in Overwatch. And, sure, I played Pokemon Go here and there (I’m only level 11), but I didn’t play anything at length until this weekend.

For years my partner and I have been talking about being able to play current gen games together, and, through a twist of fate, we can now do so. Sure, the only games we can play together are Destiny and Overwatch, but as his schedule is so bonkers, these are more than enough.

We both love Destiny and have put many hundreds of hours into it. So, this weekend when he booted it up for the “first” time on his own profile, he looked at me and said, “I can’t believe I’m starting Destiny all over again.”

I felt a little bad for him. He had had a Titan on my profile and had obtained some of the best gear and weapons in the game. To see him willing to start all over so we could actually play together was humbling.

Add to this that one of my favorite co-op partners (Degan!) knew what we were going to do and he actually wiped out one of his guardians to start the game over with us.

How many people would do that?! It was entirely kind.

The three of us are a solid fireteam. It’s been such a good time.

With my partner’s schedule being so bonkers, we likely won’t be able to dive back in to Destiny until the weekend, but I’m already looking forward to getting back into space.

All this lingering Pokemon Go excitement has me in the mindset to finally start in on Alpha Sapphire, and I got as far as popping it in to my 3DS. We will see if I actually end up diving in this week or not. I’m still finding it more than a little difficult to focus or concentrate on much of anything.

As I mentioned before, I am extending my July game challenge through August, and I’m hoping I can make better progress throughout the next four weeks. There are several games releasing next month that I’m excited for (e.g.: Deus Ex, No Man’s Sky) and I’m hoping I can find a balance to all this.

I also hope to regain my focus in general. I’ve been pretty scattered for over a week now.

What have you been playing? What games are you looking forward to in August? Do you have any on pre-order?

Thanks for bearing with me this month, friends. Here’s hoping next month is better. Cheers.

  1. I haven’t had much time to play anything recently… my new job only leaves me with about two good hours a day of free time, PLUS my wife and I just started watching Game of Thrones (six years later…), so my game time has been severely reduced.

    • Aww, I’m sorry your free time has been so greatly curbed. That has to be hard.

Believe it or not, I’ve seen only a few episodes of Game of Thrones, myself. I take it you are enjoying it?

      • So far, yeah. I really liked the first three books, but couldn’t get into the fourth. I hear that the show does it much better, so we’ll see.

  2. As noted, I finished Uncharted 4. Looking forward to both TT’ Batman, and Deus Ex. I have the latter on pre-order. Waiting to hear about reviews regarding the former.

  3. You left Game Informer! Twitter searching led me here since I hadn’t seen your blogs pop up lately and I knew that I haven’t been so busy as to miss your blogs. Glad to find where you are posting! I am Destiny-ed out after the recent Iron Banner and I’m looking forward to playing a different game this week but I’m not entirely sure what game. Pokemon Go is such a bizarrely satisfying game. Meanwhile, I’m trying to contain my excitement for Deus Ex: Mankind Divided.

    • I didn’t leave completely; I’ve still been leaving comments on various articles. I just stopped posting there for a while. I’ve been on my regular schedule here, though.

Either way, thank you for taking all the trouble to find me! It’s nice to “see” you!

Ugh, the most recent Iron Banner left me feeling so gross, so I can relate. It’s the first time I didn’t even get to rank 5.

We have been doing very similar things! I also quite like Pokemon Go, and I’m also super excited for Deus Ex. We don’t have long to wait now!

What else have you been up to?

      • Ah, I posted twice! What poor internet blog etiquette! :c)

Life has been gnarly and hard (i.e. work related). So I’m trying to get through it and onto games. And maybe a movie (saw Ghostbusters!) or book or two. I’ve returned to Fallout 4, the game is amazing and endless (I haven’t even booted up the DLC). I finally returned to the last chapter in Life Is Strange and, wow, that game is such an emotional journey that I’ve had a hard time turning it on. I’m focusing on playing my backlog and buying no new games until Deus Ex releases. I still need to finish Rise of the Tomb Raider as well as the campaigns for Halo 5: Guardian’s and Call of Duty: Black Ops 3. Still, it’s a to do list that I’m excited to tackle!

        • No worries at all! I mean, how could you have known? I’m just glad you are here. :)

I want to start Fallout 4, but every time I think about the scope of the game I feel daunted and never put it in the system.

That’s a solid list! I hope you have an excellent time.
