My Favorite Moments From E3 2016

Since the moment the final press conference concluded, I’ve been reflecting on what my favorite moments of E3 2016 have been, and why. Here they are in chronological order.

fifa 17 the journey

FIFA 17 The Journey Trailer
It still surprises me that this game has found its way to my list. I am the first to admit that I don’t play sports games, but, this is an Olympic year and, as some of you know, when the Olympics are going on, nothing else exists. During those weeks, I live and breathe the Olympics. I love finding out more about the athletes and how they train. So to see that FIFA is implementing a story of one player’s rise to the top struck a chord with me. This may be the thing that gets me to play a sports game. Which, in and of itself, astonishes and pleases me.

Fe
Fe is an indie game that’s being brought to the masses via the EA Originals program. I loved the premise and aesthetic. I am on board for more information about Fe.

skyrim special edition

The Skyrim Remaster Confirmed
I may be one of the only people on earth who hasn’t physically played Skyrim. I watched my partner play the entirety of the game, but this is my chance to play it for myself. Seeing the upgraded visuals and lighting effects was lovely, and hopefully it runs better on the current gen than it did on the last.

dishonored 2 collectors edition

More Information On Dishonored 2
From the moment it was announced at last year’s E3, Dishonored 2 has been my most anticipated game of 2016. I had no expectations when I played the original, and I ended up loving it. I especially loved the art direction. The sequel looks to improve in almost every way from the original, and the more I hear about it, the more I want to play it. The announcement of a collector’s edition was icing on the cake. When I saw that it included a full size replica of Corvo’s mask as well as Emily’s ring, I was sold. I hope that mask is wearable.

we happy few logo

The Gameplay Demo Of We Happy Few
I’d had We Happy Few on my radar for a while, but when I saw the gameplay demo (and the entirely off-kilter tone of the experience), I was sold. It looks wrong in all the right ways. I look forward to exploring that world.

dead rising 4 logo

Dead Rising 4 Announcement
I tried to get into Dead Rising 3 when the Xbox One released, but I just couldn’t. For some reason, the announcement and trailer for Dead Rising 4 really made me excited to try this one out. It looks hilariously inappropriate.

ghost recon wildlands greenery

Gameplay Demo Of Ghost Recon: Wildlands
Wildlands has been high on my list of anticipated games, and seeing more of it only makes me want to play it that much harder. Finding out that it releases next March was welcome news.

sony stage e3 2016

A Full Orchestra At Sony
Chalk it up to my musical theatre background, but the moment I saw that the pit was full at the Sony conference, I was all in. A live orchestra makes everything better. It was moving both in theory and actuality.

the last guardian 01

The Last Guardian Is Given A Release Date
Each time I see gameplay of The Last Guardian, I cry. I can already tell the beautiful bird/dog creature may well perish at the end, and it actually hurts my squishy and sensitive heart. Even so, I can’t wait to finally, finally play it.

resident evil 7 biohazard

The Reveal Of Resident Evil 7: Biohazard
Holy hell. The moment the reveal began, I would have sworn it was for whatever Kojima was working on. When the Resident Evil name came up on the screen at the end, I was genuinely surprised. It’s one of the games I’m most excited about coming out of E3 2016.

hideo kojima 01

Hideo Kojima Taking The Stage
After all the unfortunate nonsense Kojima had to endure from Konami, it was wonderful to see him given such an introduction from Andrew House. The smile on his face while the audience was cheering for him was the best. I felt so happy for him.

death stranding 01

Hideo Kojima’s Death Stranding Revealed
The moment we saw Norman Reedus and his Norman Fetus (I can’t take credit for that joke, but I do love it), I knew we were in for a wild ride. Whether this has anything directly to do with the game or was simply a taste of what we can expect, I’m all in. I hope it’s a psychological horror game, but whatever it is, I will be there with proverbial bells on.

Those were the highlights of the pressers for me; what were your favorite moments from E3 2016 (and why)?

  1. I would say all of Sony’s conference and South Park The Fractured But Whole were my favorite moments.

  2. It’s indeed funny to see how we totally focus on different games. As I wrote, I watched the Sony show this morning. Though I loved the orchestra and the grandness of the show, the games they featured weren’t my cup of tea. The new RPG Ever Oasis for the 3DS does have me exited however!

  3. The live orchestra was a highlight for me. As stated in another blog; live music makes everything better. Also, GR: Wildlands, everything that I see about this game makes me want to play it more. Not sure if Tekken 7 was mentioned at Sony’s conference. For me, Tekken 7 was the game that really got my gears to going when it comes to the fighting genre. I am happy to see that, that finally has come to light; will be released in 2017, yay!

  4. FIFA 17 The Journey sounds interesting – it reminds me of an RPG-like mode in the old International Superstar Soccer games (ISS 2000 on the N64) where you had to guide your young player through training, matches, and personal life. It was utterly bizarre, but unique!

And The Last Guardian is coming out!

    • I know!! I am so excited for The Last Guardian, but it will be a feat if I can make it through the game without turning into a blubbering mess.

I’m really excited to see how The Journey turns out. It looked surprisingly good!
