Predictions: E3 2016

e3 2016 overlay

With E3 2016 only nine days away, I’ve been thinking about what I expect (and hope) to see at this year’s pressers. I thought I’d go through by publisher and offer up my thoughts on what might be showing up on the big stage.

ea electronic arts

EA (Sunday, June 12th at 13:00 PST)

I think it’s safe to say EA will be focusing heavily on Mass Effect: Andromeda. I’m not sure we will see a release date, but I imagine we’ll see a new trailer and perhaps gameplay footage. I also think there is a solid chance we hear what they are up to on the Star Wars front. To not capitalize on the Star Wars mayhem would seem like an odd omission.

I think there is a solid chance that Titanfall 2 will be mentioned. I expect most of their focus will be on Battlefield 1.

And, of course, sports games, sports games, sports games. Perhaps a cringey moment thrown in there for good measure.

bethesda game studios

Bethesda (Sunday, June 12th at 19:00 PST)

This one is difficult to predict. I imagine we will see more of Dishonored 2, but what fills up the rest of the presser is anyone’s guess. I don’t think it’s farfetched to imagine an Elder Scrolls VI announcement, and I could also see another Wolfenstein in the works. For some reason, I have a feeling that a brand new IP will be announced, and that’s an exciting prospect.

microsoft xbox one

Microsoft (Monday, June 13th at 09:30 PST)

This is another tough one to call. I’m sure we will see more of Gears of War 4, but beyond that, I’m unsure. We could be seeing more of Tacoma, Cuphead, ReCore, Scalebound, or even an upcoming Halo entry. I’m sure Microsoft has a few tricks up their sleeve, but what those tricks are, I’ve no idea.

ubisoft logo

Ubisoft (Monday, June 13th at 13:00)

I think it’s safe to say we will be seeing far more of Ghost Recon: Wildlands, and I feel like a release date will be mentioned. I also think that release date might land before the end of the calendar year.

We will also certainly see the next entry in the Just Dance franchise, as well as a bit about the next Assassins Creed. There have been rumors of a sequel to Watch Dogs for a while, so perhaps an official announcement is coming our way. I also don’t think it’s out of the realm of possibility that another Far Cry is announced.

sony playstation logo

Sony (Monday, June 13th at 18:00 PST)

I have a feeling this year is going to be a heck of a presser for Sony. They will, of course, touch on PlayStation VR, but I think the emphasis of the presentation is going to be on games.

First off, I have a strong suspicion Kojima will take the stage, however briefly, to mention whatever he is working on for Sony. Even if this is a title card and no more, I can easily see this happening.

A release date for The Last Guardian is (and should be) a priority to announce.

I think we will hear more about Horizon: Zero Dawn and, possibly, get a release date. It’s highly possible that Sucker Punch announces what they have been working on. We could be seeing more of Quantic Dream’s Detroit: Become Human. And we may finally get a release date for Media Molecule’s Dreams, as well as another example of the game in action.

It’s been four years since thatgamecompany released Journey, and I think it likely that they might do a reveal of their current project on Sony’s stage.

It’s possible that we could hear an announcement for a Bloodborne sequel. I also imagine we will get a look at the next expansion for Destiny, as well as more information on Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare.

wild card cyberpunk 2077

Possible Wild Card Announcements

These are a few games I could see showing up as third party reveals in other pressers (for whatever reason).

The next endeavor for CD Projekt RED is Cyberpunk 2077. It would be a huge get for anyone who might be able to persuade them to show more of the game onstage.

There have been rumors for a good long while of another Red Dead Redemption in production at Rockstar. Sure, Rockstar doesn’t go in for E3, but wouldn’t it be fantastic if an official reveal happened on an E3 stage?

This one is a pipe dream just for me: Borderlands 3. I just want it so bad.

.

With that I ask, what are your predictions for E3 2016? What are your wildest dream announcements? Will you be watching the livestreams, or will you be tuning in after the fact for the highlights?

As a reminder, I will be “covering” each presser here on my site, and live tweeting my thoughts on each presser. Please feel free to join me!

    • I think of all the things I mentioned, Read Dead Redemption 2 at E3 is a long shot. Unless they were wooed by Sony or Microsoft to announce on the stage for some reason. But that’s unlikely at best.

I think the one I’m most curious about is Bethesda. They most certainly have something up their sleeve.

      • No doubt you’re right about Red Dead. Bethesda should be interesting especially after last year’s show.

        • I’m kind of hoping I’m wrong about Rockstar, though! I’d love to see them up on an E3 stage announcing a game that people will lose their minds over. :)

I agree. I think Bethesda will either have an OHMYGODWHAT show or a show that will leave people thinking, that was it? I’m hoping for the former.

  2. Where do I begin? E3 is a great time for gamers. As for the conf., I think EA will show Mass Effect, that would be a given. What’s up in the air, is what will they “show”. If I had to gander a guess, some alpha footage or gameplay & a definite release date. Also, game footage of BF1 will be shown given that it’s release date is slated for Q3.

Bethesda, I have no clue as to what maybe announced. I am interested in seeing what they are bringing to the gaming table this year. Maybe a Duke Nukem entry. I don’t know!

Ubisoft, I hope we get more footage for Ghost Recon; I wouldn’t be surprised if another Far Cry entry is shown with a “possible” release window.

Lastly, as always Playstation caps the E3 conf. no telling what they may show. Know it’s worth tuning in for. Any exclusives will be a given. Hoping to hear more about Tekken 7 & shown any footage or given a release date/window. Interested in hearing more about Horizon: Zero Dawn.

  3. I heard Red Dead Redemption, is a prequel.
I also heard that Borderlands 3 is in the works.
If anyone makes any official announcements that would be great.
Ghost Recon Wildlands looks amazing. The trailer that was released, of the lucky few going to France, trying out the open world game play in co-op, would have been a real treat. That’s the cherry in my Manhattan.

    • Rockstar has said that Red Dead Redemption 2 will happen, just not when. The same for Borderlands 3.

Ghost Recon: Wildlands really does look interesting. I hope the release window is this holiday as opposed to next spring.
