September Game Challenge: Week One (So Much Fun To Be Had!)

tearaway unfolded

It’s hard to believe we are knocking on September’s door, but here we are already, the last day in August.

My August game challenge didn’t quite go as planned, but that’s okay. I completed Until Dawn a couple of days after its release and loved it. I’m already looking forward to playing it again once I make progress on a couple more gaming fronts.

Speaking of which…

Tearaway: Unfolded releases in just over a week and I can’t wait. Tearaway: Unfolded is a retooled version of Tearaway for the PS Vita, a game that I couldn’t love much more than I do. It was deeply beautiful, whimsical, and oddly touching, and I can’t wait to see it on a far larger screen (where I can take screenshots!). I also can’t wait for exponentially more people out there to experience it now that it will be available for the PS4. It doesn’t hurt that it will be retailing for the bargain price of $39.99, either.

Now if I could just convince Media Molecule to release an art book for the game…

Alas.

And with Tearaway: Unfolded begins my September game challenge: I want to complete the game before the release of…

destiny the taken king

Destiny’s The Taken King expansion which releases on the 15th. I’ve gone from being unsure I should even get it, to genuinely looking forward to it. I’ve begun playing a bit again, and I have to say, I really do enjoy the game. I’m trying to get my brother into it, but we’ll see how that endeavor goes. It sounds like the changes coming with the expansion will make it far more user-friendly for newcomers.

A friend who I hadn’t played with in quite some time was generous with his time and offered to help me progress in the Prison of Elders, as that is the last thing I hadn’t completed from year one. I still need to beat Skolas, and we’ll see if that happens, but either way, I’m grateful to be playing again in general, and with certain people specifically.

(Thank you Trench!)

I would like to experience the new content the game has to offer with the expansion, and then, finally, I would like to complete my playthrough of…

the witcher 3 wild hunt

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. I started playing the game on release day, and I loved it. I had stopped only because of some since-patched glitches, and now I have no excuse. I very much want to complete the game before the end of the month and before the fall gaming season really gets into the thick of it. October isn’t so bad, but November is going to be a beast of a month for gaming.

Another goal for the month: installing a larger hard drive in a PS4 successfully. It almost sounds too easy, and I don’t want to screw up a PS4 because of my hard drive ambitions. I will follow online instructions precisely and hope for the best.

So there you have it folks, my September game challenge: to complete Tearaway: Unfolded, The Taken King, and The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. It’s going to be a hell of a month.

Is anyone else out there doing a monthly gaming challenge? If so, what will you be playing?

  1. I continue to sink a ton of time into Sacred 2: Fallen Angel and will probably continue to do that. I would also really like to take on the first Mass Effect in the near future, since that’s the franchise I’m the most backlogged on if you don’t count Assassin’s Creed. Oh man, I’m way behind on that series. Seriously, the release rate of that series is nuts!

    • Oh that’s right! Shoot. We talked about playing Mass Effect at the same time. Um…let me figure this one out. HowLongToBeat says it takes just under 30 hours to beat the first one…so…yikes.

      • Yeah, let me know. I’d still like to do it if you’re game. Of course It’s not like I’d have a problem holding off a bit if it works better that way, I’ve waited this long. It’s not like I don’t have anything to do in the meantime. Actually I do need to finally get my blog in order so I can write about it.

The new Destiny stuff is getting a lot of positive buzz too. Sadly I bought the first season pass and never played any of the content beyond the base game, the hazards of living and working on the road with limited carrying capacity and internet that’s a gamble at best.

        • I’d like to, too, but I am unsure if I will get to it this month. If you want to play it anyway, please don’t feel like you should wait for me. It’s my fault for forgetting. I apologize.

Yes! Getting your blog up and running will be great!

Aw nuts. Man, it would be great to play some Destiny together, but I understand about internet issues.

  3. I wanna get the platinum in Until Dawn and I have Mad Max releasing tomorrow. I started Final Fantasy Type 0 yesterday so I got that to play also and I need to finish Lego Jurassic World which shouldn’t take very long. Also playing my 3DS.

    • It’s still one of the most beautiful and moving games I’ve had the privilege to play. I picked up my copy of Unfolded today and I’m just so excited. Media Molecule is amazing.
