April Game Challenge: Week Four

bioshock please stand by cover

Well friends, it’s week four, and the only thing I can say about the status of this challenge is: I’m down to the wire.

In a purist attempt, when I started in on the first BioShock, I eschewed the New Game Plus option to start from scratch. This was great, but also time consuming, as I love to explore every nook and cranny, and that takes time. Yes, I beat BioShock, but I’m only currently on BioShock 2, and even if I haul the most amount of rear that I can, I may only barely complete this challenge by Thursday night.

However! I am not giving up! I still believe (based on my calculations from HowLongToBeat) that I can complete BioShock 2, Minerva’s Den, BioShock Infinite, and Burial At Sea. That’s a tall order, yes sir, but if I dedicate at least nine hours each day for the next four days, I can bring this one home.

I’m a bit set on completing this one, as I failed my open world challenge in both February and March (not a bright moment, or moments, for me), and I’d kick myself (figuratively) if I couldn’t complete a challenge to beat three of my favorite games in one month.

That would just be sad.

All this being said, I’m already thinking of May’s challenge, but it will have to be flexible, as I am both aching to start Bloodborne, as well as highly anticipating The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. I want to be able to do a successful monthly challenge, and I also want to devote time to those two games.

A good friend also recently picked up Animal Crossing: New Leaf, and I’d like to be able to connect so we can visit each other’s towns. I haven’t traveled to another town in Animal Crossing in ages, and it’s been even longer since anyone has come to visit mine.

Seeing as it’s been quite a while since I last logged in, I will need to spend a bit of time sprucing up (I imagine there may be a handful of weeds by now) and making Xanadu presentable. The last I saw it (about a month ago) it looked pretty good, but in Animal Crossing, you never know.

And, at the risk of sounding like a broken record, I am feeling driven to play the first Borderlands again. What it is about that game that continues to draw me in, I don’t know. But it does.

In other news, I’m highly disappointed to hear that Konami officially cancelled Silent Hills. P.T. was the most disturbing and well done horror experience I’ve had (game-wise).

Barf.

I suppose I should conclude by saying, even if I fail (and with how sick I’ve recently been, this is a possibility), I won’t be giving up my monthly challenges this year. I enjoy even the act of participating in them too much to do that.

And now, I should really get back to BioShock 2. I had forgotten that this entry had no New Game Plus, and I had been looking forward to going berserk from the get go with all my Plasmids and weapons. Alas, I had to start from scratch. Such is the way of things.

Aaand I just remembered there is no New Game Plus for Infinite either.

Super drat.

Friends, I gotta jam. This challenge won’t complete itself.

Cheers!

  2. P.T. was remarkable. So, I remarked on it right there. If it’s not connected to a Silent Hill iteration, maybe it can become part of something else larger.

  3. If your rushing then I suggest using plasmids in Bioshock as much as possible, its not like your doing side mission or getting collectibles. For Bioshcok Infinite know that Bucking Bronco and possession are your best friends, upgrade them as soon as you can. Good luck!

  4. I also hope you complete your monthly challenge. Just the fact that you establish these challenges for yourself is really cool. Because they are difficult to accomplish shows that they are at least “challenging”, that you’re pushing yourself. That’s quite commendable. Makes me want to set some regular game related goals for myself. We’re all pulling for you!

    • thank you! that means a lot. i’m still wading through rapture in the minerva’s den dlc, but there is no possible way i would finish infinite and the dlc by the end of the day. i will just finish a couple of days late and deal with my game shame.

i hope you DO create some gaming goals and share them! i always enjoy reading what you write. i followed you on twitter!

      • So you did! That was a pleasant surprise, I usually get an email when I have a new Twitter follower. I hope you got to see some of the cool pictures I posted from my trip.

I have been thinking about setting some gaming goals, half of April was occupied by travel but maybe May. The only one I currently have is posting my weekly gameplay videos on Tuesday, but failed to make the last post because of travel and not having all of the assets with me. I’ll have to catch up on that tonight.
