Wander

wander 02

Recently I came across a blurb about an indie game called Wander, and it prompted me to look into the game further. After finding out more, words can’t quite express how excited I am to get my hands on this title.

Wander, developed by Wander MMO (out of Melbourne, Australia), is described as:

Wander is a collaborative, non-combat, non-competitive MMO game focused on narrative, exploration and joy.

You begin as a giant tree. Storms that affect the known planets transform you, and continue to influence your path. A rare flower has many powers that can alter your course. Enchanting opera singers guide you.

As you explore, you begin to discover others in the the sprawling rainforest. Working together, you unlock new experiences, piece together the plot and enjoy the varied beauty that Wander has to offer.

Wander features a gorgeous landscape, large scale non-competitive play and immersive sound design to create a world like no other.

Not only does the idea of a non-combative MMO appeal to me, but the idea that this is focused on exploration and joy (joy!) just ruffles my heart in all the right ways. Never mind that you will get to play as a tree and who knows how many other forms.

I have much reverence for trees.

Based on information available on the game’s official website, it seems likely that the other forms you will take in your journey include a griffin. The images available are lush.

The game features a dynamic weather cycle including changing seasons, a day/night cycle, and cold fronts/storm systems. The weather system goes so deep, that it involves thermals and lifts in the wind which will effect how you fly from place to place.

So for any of us who have gazed at the sky in wonder of a bird gliding in gentle circles, this will be a veritable dream come true to experience it for ourselves.

The exploring isn’t confined to land and air, as you will also be able to explore underwater terrain.

Just looking at the above image, it only emphasizes how striking the concept art for the game is. The rich colors and evocative locations prime the mind for adventure.

Wander releases in Q1 of 2015, so we don’t have long to wait until this experience unfolds. The game will be available on PS4 and Windows/Linux at a price of $25.

I highly encourage anyone interested to visit the game’s official site, as there are fairly frequent game updates as well as a bevy of beautiful images.

I look forward to exploring the world of Wander, and I hope to wander alongside some of you in the future.
